Any one know where or how to get water?

In the world, there are randomly spawned barrels with "some" liquid, it can be water, dirty water, gasoline, oil or posion. You can drink it from it, but you dont know what liquid it is, so you can die. Better way is to have some liquid container like coffee can, energy drink can, plastic bottle, galon bottle, leather bottle (you can craft it), old oil flacon, or big jerry can. You can quickly find these things when you kill some low lifes (there are everywhere), or try some houses not so far from the first city (in the city there are spawns as well, but you have to find them, try to check top of the boeing).
There is another way, you can loot some items and go sell it to traders in the city (press F2 to minimap or M to map, to get known where you are), and then buy some liquid container from the certain trader in the city. There are many traders trading many different things.
One last advice: when you help to build a water pipe source in the city, it starts generate water you can drink or fill in to your bottle. The water pipe is by the windmill at the "main square" of the Lost Wings city.

Ummm- I think I could take the most couch born no-lifer outside right now and they could differentiate between water and gasoline.

I have yet to find any water. I die over and over due to thirst. Cockroach puree will give a bit of thirst but not if you are full (but you will still consume the food). I have a dozen different containers of oil and poison but so far, have yet to see water. I did find an energy drink which helps a little but since water depletes at about 3x the speed of food, I die with a full belly and just respawn. It's getting old fast.
I am repairing a water pump but two of the components are beyond my knowledge to find. One is a filter, which can be bought for a lot of gold nuts, which I have never seen. And the other is a pump (i think?) and I can find no NPC that sells it or a blueprint for it.

I think a reasonable solution to thirst needs to be addressed. (or pointed out to clueless players like myself)
I get that it is a survival game, but all survival games have a solution to the players needs. I can find no solution other than repeated deaths, which isn't fun. At least there's no death penalty that I can see.

Water is pretty easy to deal with once you know what to look for. When you spawn you got somewhat limited time until it gets really hot, like 12-18h time, that is when water depletes really fast. You want to be in the shade and using gear that keeps your overheat low during that time. At night and early mornings you hardly use any water, so this is when its best to run around doing stuff.

Finding clean water is somewhat rare so if you find some try and take as much as you can via a container. Check all the barrels in town that are sideways on the floor and when running around, you'll get lucky eventually. Try to always keep a empty water bottle on you for this.

But you can drink dirty water just fine, it makes your hp turn red and you take slight damage over time. You can counter act this by eating garlic once your hp stops being red.

To find dirty water just run around until you see a campfire with a little tent, there is almost always a blue barrel around these with dirty water. Red barrels with a strip will usually be gas or oil but sometimes might have water. Use a container to take some dirty water and just use that.

You can also farm some trees which give grasshoppers, make them into puree and they restore like 50% water. Roaches aren't really worth it.

The air filter for a well is pretty rare to find out in the wild. You can get most of the mats from looting crashed vehicles(look for black smoke) or salvaging vehicles, but the air filter you'll probably have to buy. It's not really worth it imo, it only gives 1L per day and water is easy to get after you understand the basics.

You can also collect a bunch of dirty water in a gas can and buy a chlorine pill from merchants that purifies dirty water. You can use it on small bottles of water but it'll be a waste.

Thank you for these tips. I finally found dirty water at a tent camp like you mentioned, but still have yet to see clean water and I'm level 8 currently.
It seems like being able to boil dirty water at a camp fire into clean water would be a no brainer but that currently isn't in the game. Perhaps it will be.

clean water i found only in barrels so far, and it was twice. i'll take dirty water anytime, doesn't really debuff to what i can see. yup, kept dying, but started moving around looking for those spawned in barrels, and so found, my most treasured items is the water bottle, as i can fill them up, but man the inventory is brutal, but slowly getting supplies to get backpacks.. glad there are different types that one can make.

There are clean water placements. You just got to find them. Also, difficulty plays a massive part in environmental effects such as overheat.

And one last thing, you can make as many footlockers/wooden boxes/stone stash as you want. Don't just make one. Placing the blue print and part filling it can relieve inventory issues.

Dirty water + purification tabs = water

Water condenser blueprint = dirty water collection

Water pumps that you build = water

Buy water using rusty nuts

I think a nice fix for the water problem, would be to add a permanent Blue dirty water barrel to Ron & Franks camp, it can be emptied out, but refills every time we log back in to play, finding water should be a hazard, not the main focus of the game, right now it's very annoying and a buzz kill, to always be focused on finding water at a low level. i'm sixth level and have everything i need to go further out and explore, but water, i'm always low on water and about to die from thirst, i don't want to leave Franks's & Ron's camp as that is where i've made my spawn point and don't want to die to far away and lose my dropped gear, so i stay close to the spawn so it's easy to find my gear again, it's a pain to constantly die from thirst.

There's no "fix" needed for water. FYI new seeds of maps WILL spawn water pumps and condensers at Ron and Franks. Had it happen twice now. Also had a gas pump spawn about 150 metres away from Ron and Frank. Try changing seeds.

No need to change seeds, every time you log into the game the barrels etc.. change location, which is why i'm asking for a permanent water barrel.

I know that barrels change location. I'm telling you that permanent structures like water pipes and condensers CAN spawn at Frank and Rons. You were specifically asking for a water source to to be at Frank and Rons, I'm telling you that can already happen.

Literally head in one direction and just carry on til the end of the map. I came across bandits who often carry water and barrels strewn across the desert floor.

Ok i'll check it out, yer i've found the bandits and random spawned barrels, my character has reach a level where now i'm able to maintain a water limit, i have extra water bottles etc.. and can travel further out to find the random barrels and pumps, i'm now strong enough to take on the bandits and mutants, the idea of the permanent barrel based at Ron's & Frank's is to make it more fun for lower level beginners, so they don't have to go thru that whole dying from thirst and re spawning, go get your gear and madly search for water anywhere before the big heat sets in or the mutants come and etc... it's quite a tedious way to play and off putting, not to mention the whole," i'm nearly dead from thirst, so i'll just wait and die and then i hopefully can go and find water" routine, nor should we need to quit out and reload the game again and hope we get lucky or even create new seeds, much easier to just have a permanent water barrel at Ron & Frank's camp.

You can get a barrel storage blueprint. I have crafted 5 or so. One for each type of liquid. I wait till I got like 15 litres of dirty water then purify and pour that bad boy into my barrel storage!
