Penumbra: Overture

1920x1080
Game won't work on 1920x1080, it stretches it even more from that and the mouse cursor is disappeared

I had the same problem with all resolutions, changing size of text and other elements in windows control panel from Larger (which I had set) to Smaller has solved it.

The game tries to run in 800x500 for me. Everything works fine, until you hit the opening screen that says "Penumbra: Overature" with a picture of a funeral. The game just plays music and I can't see any text or cursor.

Go to where Penumbra.exe is located, right-click and go to properties, then compatability tab, then check to see if "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" is checked. Make sure it is. I had the same problem and this fixed it.

Dude, i took this text from a old forum (sorry for my bad english)
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=823178
"Quit game and go to:
C:\Users\...\Documents\Penumbra Overture\Episode1\settings.cfg

There you'll find something looking like this :
<Screen Width="xxxx" Height="xxxx" FullScreen="true" Vsync="true" />

Just change the values to:
<Screen Width="1680" Height="1050" FullScreen="true" Vsync="true" />

and save when you close it.
You are done."
I hope you find it useful.

i tried the other solutions listed here and this is what fixed it for me. had to right-click on my desktop and go to display settings to change text size from 125% to just 100%. what a goofy thing for this game to do.

Nope. Nothing worked. Absolutely nothing. "Change that maybe" Pure Darkness. "Go to Properties and do that" The Abyss draws nearer. Nothing has fixed my screen. My game, penumbra overture will forever remain a broken mess because of my foolish arrogance into the belief that setting the resolution to the max in-game will have destroyed my display mode permanently. I warn you. Keep the resolution as it is, or as the game would like it. Don't try to change it against its will lest you game become permeantly broken for eternity.

All I will ever see when i launch the game is a launch then quick out stating

"Warning,
Display mode could not be set. 640x480 has being used instead"

Darkness.

I actually found a way, change the resolution of your monitor, something close to 640x480, then open the game and change the resolution in the options menu, close the game, set your monitor resolution back to normal and reopen the game, it did work for me
