Xbox controller

I need recommendations for using Steam's controller layout settings to play this with an Xbox controller. The A and B buttons jump and crouch, respectively, but the X and Y buttons don't seem to do anything (not sure if they do at some point later), and apparently I can only examine objects by using my mouse's right click button. None of the buttons on the controller seem set to that by default.

Has anyone else played this with an Xbox controller, and if so, how did you map the controls?
