I used to main orcane in the first game, so I know all of his neutral game and I i just pummle him and win neutral 5x in a row. Hes never been too much of a problem for me as most Orcanes kind of just play the same way and I counter them all the same way. He honestly just feels like an NPC most of the time.
Maypul is by far the most annoying. She is so tiny, making short hop attacks hard to pull off if she's dash dancing all over the place.
If you're playing kragg i'd reccomend learning how to rock pebble other people. I know it's obvious, but if you throw the rock below you and jab on top of it. The pebbles will go in a straight line, you can use these projectiles on people who are dash dancing / moving alot like maypul or orcane, and convince them to play more stationary, if you down-tilt on the rock, it goes slightly upward in a diagonal for more options. Orcane is really terrible in terms of offensive options, he is a very campy character but if you just use your own zoning options and beat him in neutral, you can force the opponent to use orcane's crappy offensive tools. His best approach moves are nair, fair (turn around bubble butt), and n special. If you can read and parry the bubbles if he's bubble spamming after n special, then you force him to use more fundamental attacks which aren't that great, and nair is also easy to shield.
Practice out of shield options and shield drops, as kragg has alot of strong out of shield options such as nair, fair, and bair. They all come out really fast, especially his bair which combos into alot of heavy moves or even sets up grabs.
orcane's uptilt is really good, but honestly kragg has alot of somewhat disjointed moves. Including his dair. If orcane is using uptilt to apply shield pressure, it's better to just spot dodge out of the way, but if he's spamming it while you're on a platform, honestly just try to position yourself to use your moves and hit him.
as for maypul, honestly she's one of my worst match ups. If you just attempt to win neutral and learn how to edge guard her. You'll make it on top. Her smash attacks have alot of end lag, so you can punish if she's the type of player who likes to spam them. But if you match up against a maypul who is really good at comboing with the teether, you're kind of screwed if I'ma be honest.
Pfft. Honestly I nearly gave you that "clown" award for your first post. But you did give a very substantial reply after. Maypul is incredibly fast so it nearly feels like I just have to let her hit me once shes knocked me up into the air. I don't know if theres a faster way out of getting out of that "juggle" state where you're just knocked in the air and easy hit/combo food.
Orcane nearly feels like he has so many good tools to me. Even when I'm in the midst of my jab combo (I've seen alot of characters do this) they shield nearly after the first or second punch and then just grab and throw me. As well as sometimes with both Orcane and Maypul I feel like my jab can literally not hit them on the first jab at times because of their weird hitbox and orientation.
I suppose I just need to keep on that grind but I do thank you for your input my friend.
He has amazing combo potential and he kills really early. But in turn, he gets abused like a mcdonalds employee.
Practice your DIs, and recover effective and spot dodge in critical moments.
From what you're describing it just kind of sounds like you're losing neutral. This game is ultimately rock paper scissors in many cases. If they're grabbing you, you gotta spam more attacks. You can jump out of shield or spot dodge to avoid a grab obviously.
It's just a name of the game, and match up knowledge.
Really the best thing you can do is to analyze what they are doing and find opportunities to parry. I too play lox and too lose to most maypuls, but if they start trying to just run in and dash attack without any set up, mix up, or anything, I’m not gonna let them get away with it.
When playing against combo heavy characters with heavy weights you basically have to treat it like a turn based fighting game. Let them do their combo (or better yet, don’t), and eventually find the right time to parry them and pull off your combo to deal just as much percent. And in neutral I advise taking things slow and letting them approach first. They are much faster than you so if you go in for an f air or try setting up a neutral special you’re opening yourself up for a dash attack and a 0 to death.
TLDR because I explained it poorly,
don’t rush in, let them try and use your big attacks to keep them away. Then find their strat and pick it apart so you can find the right times to parry and counter attack
Be wary of shielding and crouchcancelling too predictably since Orcane can abuse that hard by shooting waterdrops on your shield and detonating the puddle right on you. If you're stuck in the bubble blender they dont have guaranteed combos after so dont give up and try to mix up where you SDI (which direction you're holding) to escape
