Rivals of Aether II

New "Primal" Event Track skins!
Just here to pop off about how awesome the new event skins are. Forsburn, Orcane, Kragg (uhhhh again), Etalus (when he drops) all look fantastic as dinosaurs, but most importantly for me is the Civet Maypul skin is finally getting dropped!! Saw it in the Dragdown wiki page and been looking forward to it forever, can't wait to rep it honestly.

What are your thoughts folks?

I have a few thoughts.

On the merit of the skins alone? Yeah they’re pretty excellent. Kragg gets yet another skin which isn’t really required since he already has so many and his free ones from level ups are already too good, but it’s still a nice skin. Forsburn also didn’t really need another skin since it doesn’t seem to be all too visually unique compared to the other maskless skins. I would love to see them do something more creative with the mask rather than take it off entirely. Orcane finally gets a skin that isn’t another fish, and maypul finally gets a good free alt because his abyss skin is lacking and if I remember correctly so is the level 50 skin.

Now addressing things outside of the skins alone, I do find it to be a little bit sad that the devs are much more efficient at pushing out skins rather than much needed bug fixes, quality of life changes, and other major content. I’m sure that they’re getting worked on the side but it’s still a little unfortunate to see a lot of resources go what feels like a coat of fresh paint on a broken car.

On top of that, the current shop system and the way they handle free currency is pretty good, even if it has some flaws, but the fact that 3 of them are only purchasable and will likely be obtained by most people through real cash makes it feel like a little bit of a cash grab. Now, I know they absolutely need the money if they want to progress the game, but it’s still a cash grab at the end of the day and it makes me feel a little weird as a free to play gamer at this point in the game’s life cycle, because it really feels like the full release only exists as a marketing tool to fund the actual release, and that people like me aren’t supposed to be here yet.

Now all of these points are pretty big exaggerations of the truth, but ik a lot of players are feeling things similar to me rn about the state of the game, even if they aren’t as extreme as i described.

I don´t know about this game becourse its a small dev-team as far as I know but normally there exist multiple teams.
One for grafical stuff like skins, one for bugfixes and most of the time one for future game content and updates so at least time allocation shouldn´t be an issue.
Funding for those teams can only work if the grafical team gets fundet first otherwise there is no money coming in.

In general I love the prehistoric/dinosaur theme and will probably purchase this bundle especially becourse most of the characters I like to play get something out of it.
When it comes to the fact that Kragg gets another skin:
This one was in the works since forever as far as I know even before release and we had the same problem with ranno and clairen skins before this.
At this point I gues everyone will get their skins in batches.

Dan has already responded to precisely this question and he says that these skins have been 90% done for ages and they're just rolling them out as times goes on. And also that 3D artist isn't really going to help with things like fixing server issues obviously

The people who do skins are not the same people who fix bugs or work on the technical stuff. Different set of people. You don't get an artist to fix a car engine.
