Things are bad when Smash ultimate has better net code
I'm not generally one for rage posting, but here we are. The server based net code for this game is some how worse than the power point online of smash ultimate. At least in Ultimate's online you are some what on the same level disadvantage, but with Rivals only one player is stuck in lag and after the rollback the non laggy player gets a free neutral win or in the worst case a stock. I'm not great at this game by any means and can lose unaided by terrible net code but the losses that come from it are frustrating and frequent. For a competitive focused game the competition shouldn't be who lives closer to the server and has a better router. Before people blame my connection according to a cloudflare test I have 153 Mbps down 120 Mbps, 23.3ms latency and 4.23ms jitter no packet loss. Not amazing but I should be able to play online no issues.

the more important question is what servers do you get matched on and whats your ping there?

the servers I'm matched to are about eastern Canada and US and my ping is usually 26-36 range depending on which one. I would put my distance but I don't want to dox myself.

that should run flawlessly, assuming the no packet loss part is true. what are your pc specs?

32 gigs of ram, ryzen 5600, rtx 3070. The game runs fantastic, it's just unplayable online despite having a wired connection.

this is def an issue on your side

I know, it doesn't make it any less frustrating though.

it really isnt, the game is neutorious for having ♥♥♥♥ net code and is constantly talked about.
I find it hilarious how every time this gets brought up the only explanation people have is that it’s the fault of the player. Some of the time, hell, most of the time it is, but this game just runs like garbage for no reason sometimes.

There is definitely a problem and if we keep ignoring it it’s not going away

The majority of players have no issues with their online experience. I have had no issues at all in my playtime both after launch and during the beta. Netcode seems fine to me.

It started pristine but got worse halfway through the betas, launch had some struggles but it was holding up, rn it's the worst it's ever been on the East Coast side.
Supposedly the non-NA servers are doing fine though (besides Paris)

I’m in the east coast as well, I wonder if it has something to do with it

I also can confirm that I have constant connection issues even with good ping with me being on East Coast. My guess is that it's server issues considering I'd have overall better connections in RoA1 and the ping aligned with the state of the connection (good ping good connection, bad ping bad connection). I'd like to see their explanation to why they have singles hosted on servers (my own speculation) as it adds more points of failure for no gain? The only place where I could see servers being useful is for FFA and/or teams

How does bad connection manifest in this game?, so far i haven't encountered anything apparently, im always at 80 ping and 240fps, i dont feel any real delay, sometimes i feel like i input something and my character just stands there, but that might be just me inputting stuff faster than i should, since i often get this in ultimate as well, it might my gcc adapter too, so i dont know.
