From what I’ve seen online the common consensus seems to be that this as a smash game is fantastic, but as a rivals sequel not so much.

Damn dude calm down. I’m just relaying what else I’ve seen online, even though my opinions are mixed as well.

using everyone elses opinion to form your own is bad and just like sparking zero fans,
if you were grinding the last game before playing the new one you're probably having a bad time.

You seemed to be confused. I explained what the common consensus was that I’ve seen online, which is not necessarily my own opinion. I myself have formed my opinions based on the experiences that I’ve had with this game so far. I believe that the game is quite good, but there are a few key issues that are plaguing the game, mainly regarding the lack of keyboard accessibility and the demanding system requirements leading to some laggy games even with my high-ish end pc.

Furthermore, I quite like sparkling zero, but I’m not made of money, and that $70 price tag is way too much.

And yes, I did get back into rivals 1 before I played the sequel, and yes, this did have an impact on how I played the sequel. It took me some time before I got used to the new changes, but now that I’ve played for a bit now and built some muscle memory, I can make unbiased decisions. I don’t necessarily find roa2 a bad game, I just think it needs some tweaks to better accommodate players of the first game, especially for keyboard players.

This game rocks. Rivals plays basically how I wish Smash played movement and mechanic wise, but the lack of shields and grabs could feel a bit empty and spammy sometimes if you're a person that hops between platformer fighter games. With Shields and grabs I really feel at home when combined with the general Rivals smoothness
