Shield in the game is poorly designed
In a traditional fighting game, blocking is not a good thing. The issue with blocking is it puts you into hit lag, and the person doing the attacking can usually chain into a mixup. If you block the mixup and they don't use a resource, usually it's unsafe for them, but you would rather not be in this position in the first place.

In a game like this, there are no downsides to shielding except getting grabbed. That means these are the only two valid interactions, because attacking essentially does nothing for you ever, except get you grabbed. This really kills the pacing of the game, especially because there is no shield poking so there is no high lows with shield whatsoever. The simplified version of this mechanic is simply not as fun as not having it at all would be.

Or you can just grab, because spot dodge is also risky. Also a person can just jump out of shield. Like, watch the video you yourself linked. In your own video ranno is safe.

You heavily misunderstand what I said. I said you can safely pressure shield the video will teach you how to do so. Ranno is certainly not safe in this scenario, this is a bot that has been set up and cannot have their shield broken. It is a practice scenario.

Shields have a lot of counter play, they have nuance that make them a little too strong in this game, but they have plenty of counter play. It takes practice.

Shield being too strong
When looking at the numbers for optimal shield pressure (i.e. low aerials, spaced tilts, etc) the attacker has a clear advantage. In practice, however, getting perfectly spaced shield pressure isn’t always feasible, so shields end up being strong in neutral. If we adjust the frame advantage of shield pressure, then attacking will be too strong at the top level, so instead we want to focus on increasing the risk of shielding in neutral so that baiting people into shield is more rewarding. We’re also nerfing the shield hp regeneration time again, but adding a mechanic that rewards offensive play by restoring your shield when you land a hit.


Patch is live, shields are changed.

Don't care what you said. Just read patch notes. Exact logic was mirrored there. I suspect this will not be the only time shields are changed too.

No. You said "just space bro," then the developers said "actually in practice you can't do that" then nerfed shields. I don't care about somebody replying with "just space better bro" in the first place and then my opinion was validated 2 minutes later so I don't care about your reductionist trash.

I posted the patch notes 2 weeks ago, we all knew what was going to be changed. Do you live under a rock?

That was never the problem, but you wouldn't know that because you are a random glazer.

It definitely was the problem the devs themselves said at low levels people were not playing around shields properly (spacing). And that good players didn't have that issue because shielding is worse than attacking per the frame data.

And it will still be a problem at low levels because shields are still extremely good, it is a minor nerf.

good luck practicing, this post is just one big self report honestly.
