Buying Physical copy.

If i buy physical retail copy of RSmith 2014 can i add it to steam and will it after that behave as if it was bought through steam and will I be able to buy dlc's?

In fact, if you buy a "physical copy" you'll get a CD/DVD with a steam client and a code for RS 2014. After installing and entering the code, the game will be downloaded from the internet.

I've done the same with RockSmith 1. It was like a bad joke waiting the download to be done.

So all in all they could have only printed the code and stick it on a piece of paper around the cable?

I installed RS1 from disc and it only downloaded the updates. Entering the code too early in the install process seems to cause retail games to download rather than being installed from the physical disc (this happened to me with Skyrim, for example).

I have a retail copy. It installs what's on the disk first and then downloads any existing updates. This is all done via Steam.

Valve's retail games that go through Steam do this, and other companies (like Bethesda and newer Gearbox) games do it as well. I'm pretty sure it's the norm. (Other games referenced: The Orange Box and the Portal retail copies, Duke Nukem Forever, and RAGE.)

A lot of the time the key thing pops up if it has a # and you got a box with a disk. It told me to copy paste but i never had to paste it anywhere.I just clicked hide key option and never worried about it again.Have had no problems at all.

kinda figured that but i never pasted it anywhere (it said to copy and paste)mybe i did put it UBI but i am an old fart so might of forgot ;-) i can see the key buy clicking key in the right hand list in game screen thanks Orangestar
