First I would try different USB ports... There are some known issues with USB 3.0 not working correctly with the Realtone cable. I believe there is a change that can be made to make it work on a usb 3.0, but I would have to look through the threads to find it. Also try reseating the breakaway.

If that doesn't help. Let us know and we can find some different possibilities. Also, which OS?

Also, try a reboot with the cable plugged in.

Another thing... If you have any other USB devices (Headsets, Harddrives.. etc) plugged in.. Try unplugging those. Except for keyboard and mouse of course, you kind of need those. Some other usb devices can cause issues.

As Caldaar has mentioned above. Also, you can go into device manager and look at your usb ports. See if you have an exclamation mark. If so then it may be a conflict and you should remove all you can or even disable those other ports temporarily until you can see if you can get it recognized. You may know that the driver is installed with windows so you shouldn't need to worry about downloading it.

Get back to us with what you find.

I unplugged an HDD dock and an extenal HDD. Now the Rocksmith cable is recoknized by Windows but has a code 10 error.

Ok, well we are making progress. A code 10 error is a very generic error. It cannot start the device and doesn't have enough information to tell you why. So, just have to try different things to maybe hit something that is causing the problem.

Again, reseat and blow out the quick disconnect in the cable. The chip that tells the computer what it is; is on the opposite side of the quick disconnect. Make sure that is seated well. Also blow out the usb end. so that hopfully it has a good connection.

Go into device manager, and uninstall the cable. Reboot, and plug the cable back in. That way it will reload the device driver.

If it still does not install, try rebooting with the cable plugged in.

If anyone else has any other ideas, chime in.

What does it say in device manager? Something along the lines of "hocksmit" (no typo!)? If so, your USB needs more power. You need a powered USB-hub then or try any other USB-ports your PC has. Could be an USB3.0 issue as well. Use USB2.0 if possible. If you don't have USB2.0 try disabling USB3-support in your BIOS (turn xHCI-mode off).

Device Manager reports the device name as Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter.

The usual fixes for the code 10 error are:

- using a powered USB Hub (2.0). Although usually if it's a power issue it reports "hocksmi" which yours isn't doing.

- disable XCHI 3.0 in your BIOS which may fix the problem.

- when you're plugging in to USB are you only using your front panel? Try plugging into rear USB ports instead. Some peripherals issues can be worked around this way. For some people the issue only seems be a problem when the front ports are off of a separate controller from the rear ports.

- Some have reported success using a USB 2.0 hub even when connected to a USB 3.0 port.
Check for USB controller driver and chipset updates for your motherboard. Don't count on Windows Update to have the latest or best drivers. www.station-drivers.com is a good resource.

-Get a newer Real Tone cable. Some users have reported, and I quote, "I know from personal experience that more recent versions are more compatible with USB 3.0 ports, but have no idea why. There aren't any external physical or label differences between the two to identify them. Three separate cables I got when Rocksmith 2012 were released have issues with 3.0, including one that was sealed in the package until it was tested, yet a newer cable works in the same ports with no issues."
Again that's from other users as I haven't had any issues with my original RT cable that I bought for the Xbox 360. My pc likely has many differences than yours though.

My back panel USB 2.0 ports report the device name as hocksmit. The Back panel USB 3.0 ports report the device correctly but with code 10. The only time I have been able to get this device to work properly is with the third from the top front panel USB 3.0 port but it stopped working when the remaster patch came out. On my last computer it had no problems in any port.

The previous computer had both types and the device worked in all slots. It was Win7 though wheras the new computer is Win10.

It's also most likely that another difference is the power source/configuarion which is generating enough for the 3.0 ports on that pc. You could look into that or try using a USB 2.0 hub. Alternatively checking the 3.0 ports controller driver and chipset updates for your motherboard.
