Real tone cable- Operation Failed. [RESOLVED]
Hi all. I bought Rocksmith back on the Christmas sale, couldn't get it configured, and kinda left it for the birds for a couple of months. Recently I've been having a little bit more free time outside of work, so I'm trying to get it up and running.

The problem seems to be with my PC recognizing the Real Tone Cable.

I get this error message when checking the device manager.

Windows 8 Pro 64 bit

8 Gigs of Ram

Any advice/suggestions?

SOLVED

This is ridiculous, but I was using the USB breakaway from my wired 360 controller.

I grabbed the breakaway (the 6 inch part that goesw from the usb to the PS/2 input on the cable) and now it works flawlessly.

I didn't realize it made a difference, but make SURE to use the breakaway that comes with the cable if you run into issues.

Thanks to everyone that offered advice!

Windows 8 is your problem. According to Ubisoft Win8 isn't supported, however, people have managed to get it working. Just search Google, there are solutions out there.

I've been searching. This particular issue doesn't seem to be common, though. My roommate has a very similar build running 8 and had 0 problems I'm hoping to find someone with a similar issue who managed to fix it.

Thanks though.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

W8 is just W7 with a diferent interface. There should be no problem getting ti to work on 8.

That's a tricky one... but I doubt W8 is the issue here....

Is the cable pluged directly in to the PC?
No hub or anything?

Done a bit of searching tonight and there's a few things that can cause this. Is the cable plugged directly into the back of the PC? Try not to use a USB hub. Also, what other devices do you have connected to the USB? Try unplugging stuff and see what happens. I've read where people have had an external HDD or webcam connected and that's caused problems.

Yes, it's plugged directly into the PC. I've tried the USB 2.0 on the back and the USB 3.0 on the front, to no avail. It makes the sound of a device being plugged in, but that's it.

As I said, I uninstalled the driver and when I plug it in, Windows doesn't attempt to install it at all. Instead of showing up as Real Tone Cable in Control panel, it now shows as USB Audio Device.

I tried finding the Driver online to install manually, but I can't seem to come across it.

Currently I've only got my Keyboard, mouse, and Real Tone Cable plugged in. I have two internal HDDs, but I don't think that would cause an issue.

Do you know anyone who has the game as well? I have a feeling it could be the cable it self.

Yeah, my roommate has it. It's actually his cable. I deleted the game and am currently reinstalling. Will report back with results.

I completely reinstalled the game, still no dice.

I am getting a new error message though.

Still Code 10, but a different subtext. I guess it's progress?

I dug through all the program files, but wasn't able to find a driver file. I guess it's coded into the game, so there is no way I can just pull it out to install seperately?

I tried running as admin as well, nothing.

The driver should install when you connect the cable.

Have you tried connecting it without running rocksmith??
I did have an issue at first but tried a few ports and all of a sudden it installed.
Isomodia Feb 27, 2013 @ 2:50pm
Yeah, I've tried it on all 5 USB 2.0 ports and the 3.0 port on the front.

My computer recognizes the cable. It shows up as Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter, but it has the yellow triangle with the exclaimation point. Upon going to properties, I get the error listed above.

I appreciate you trying to help man, but I'm beginning to think this is a bust. I knew it had compatibility issues, but like I say, my roomate is running it on a nearly identical machine. Same processor/video card and a comparable mobo, with zero issues.

Guess I'll have to wait out an offical Win8 update. It's only been out for a year, huh?
GuitarDan Feb 27, 2013 @ 3:16pm
It's only been out since october here.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the W8 update.

The issue here really seems to be with the cable not the game...

The game boots up ok and all right?

If so try somthing the oposite of what the advice is and plug it in to a hub....

Have you checked that unsigned driver install is set to allow or prompt? (W7 sollution from here)

I run the game both from my pc and my laptop. Both 64 bit the laptop is 7 the pc 8 and it works fine on both....

You could always try and install another usb pci card or something....?? Shouldn't cost too much...
GuitarDan Feb 27, 2013 @ 3:21pm
byh the way I found this on the error code

"The "Code 10" error means that driver manager can't detect the
device. It means that the device wasn't plugged correctly or the USB
driver was corrupted."

Maybe this will help....

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/716851-Rocksmith-PC-Configuration-and-FAQ-s

From a forum manager on ubi forums...
"Problem: When I plug in my Rocksmith Real Tone Cable, it doesn’t show up or Windows has trouble starting the device.
Solutions: Make sure that the USB port that you’re plugging the cable into is providing enough power to the cable and configured for Full Speed (12Mbit/s) or faster. Make sure that the Rocksmith cable is being listed in the “Recording” tab of the Sound control panel. If the cable is being recognized by Windows, then the game should be able to access it.
For best results, plug the Rocksmith cable directly into a powered USB port on your PC."
