is the flute supposed to just randomly cancel out of the song?

i seem to remember being able to play it and the song would just loop until I chose to stop but now it cancels automatically after a few seconds

I played PS4 and PS5 versions, the flute has never looped and has always stopped when the melody ended.

I don't remember using the flute at all in Legends, myself.
I don't even remember if there is a flute in Legends.
