Game will not launch on Mac
I just downloaded and installed the game. The game will not launch the little black box apears preparing to launch, but nothing occurs. I have tried adding -skiplauncher and -skiplauncher -windowed -windowsize 1600 900 -rendersize 1600 900, to no avail. Checked game integrity it's fine. I try to run the game from the folder and get an error that powerpc apps are not supported. There is no config file, my guess is since the game hasn't started it hasn't been created.

Running Yosemite 10.10.4

What type of computer are you using? Also, you might try to delete the game and then re-install.
But it is really odd that you got the message that PowerPC apps are not supported.

Doesn't work on my Mac either. Same symptoms. Yosemite 10.10.5. Also, if I try to launch the launch script run_dg2.sh (I assume this is the script.) from the Terminal, I get following error:
./run_dg2.sh
LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10665 for the file /Volumes/Janin levy/SteamGamesMac/steamapps/common/DefenseGrid2/DefenseGrid2.app.

I don't know if this will help, but there are a couple of things to try.

In the Steam library, right click on Defense Grid 2, select Properties. In the General Tab, uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game". In the Updates Tab, uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud"
You might also take Steam Offline.

@SandmanActual Personally I use these setting in the "Set Launch Options" under the General Tab: -skiplauncher -numcores 2 -numjobthreads 2 This reduced my CPU usage from 80% down to 40%

Iv said this in other forms, im not suprised Yosemite is having problems, other mac users have noticed other programs cant run once they update to Yosemite. Any chance of rolling back one OS to pre-Yosemite?

@TheWatcher Donuts, I'm able to play DG2 on a 2014 Mac Mini running Yosemite 10.10.5 and a 2013 MacBook Pro running El Capitan 10.11 Public Beta version 5

Thanks, I will try these settings. Still annoying though that you must do this - something is wrong with the game itself to act like this with certain Macs; maybe it does not like certain video cards!

Thank you - these settings make the Game totally playable; only sometimes the mouse (Whichever I use) starts reacting very slowly, even though the load is now next to nothing on my iMac

If these settings work for ppl we would like to add them to DG2FreeMaps.com 's how to section so that other mac users can try them out.

These settings are working for me. My CPU usage is now at 9% - perfect!

@SandmanActual, I'm glad the settings worked for you. I wonder what is causing the mouse issue. I play using a wired Xbox 360 controller

@TheWatcher Donuts, That's a good idea!

The Mouse Issue is a little strange - in general use both mouses work fine on my desk, also with other Games. But I have found putting a mousepad under them for only DG 2 helps a little - go figure :-)
Now a new problem - The Temporal Towers are not having any effect at all. Very frustrating! I am re-installing Windows 10 this week under Bootcamp & I will see if all works fine "over there" & report back!
edt_oni Aug 30, 2015 @ 12:29pm
@SandmanActual, the Temporal Towers only affect the aliens when the "pulse" is active or visible. Also, some aliens like the fast rumblers hardly slows down even though they get hit by the pulse.
SandmanActual Aug 31, 2015 @ 12:48am
That I knew, but I already saw this problem on the Map where the Temporal Tower was first unlocked; if I built one before the voice over announced it was available, the Towers had zero effect, but if I built the first one after the voice over, they all worked. I redid that Map several times to check it, & it worked (or did not work) like this every time. They have worked in the following Maps but now I hit one where again absolutely no slow down occours.
