After this, there's no going back to FIFA. A brilliant game this.

OP thumbs down
PES2013 thumbs up

The very fact the OP has nothing to offer for their reason speaks volumes they likely just have a personal grumble which is in my opinion probably unfounded.

This is a GREAT GAME, and despite my initial issues, I am delighted it has come to Steam.

Go grab it if you're a footy [soccer XD] fan.

It's a terrible PES if you grew up with the originals and it's a good PES if you started playing over the last few years.

Horrible teammate AI will not advance along with whoever's got the ball, regardless of tactic tweaking. Only way I've found for players to move around is to pass the ball to someone with the "Talisman" skill. Also, forward runs by the CFs and SSs are hilariously dumb.

Horrible passing mechanics, most forward passes are of a wrong trajectory/speed and deliberately go towards opposition defenders. This has been a feature of all PES games post PES 5. It's infuriating, to say the least.

Playing online is a joke if you don't intend to play with one of the top tier teams.
Any average team will have trouble with as much as controlling the ball properly, which makes attacking very hard.

PES 6 was my last PES before I picked this one up and the only reason I did was so I could play Master League again. The Master League in this game is one of the few positives I found.

Inclusion of Fifa-like elements, like dribble buttons, button for proper "trapping", flashy animations, elevation of top teams as the only viable options for online have worn down the quality of PES over the last 3 years.

I hope that new players will enjoy this game, but for old fans this is another franchise deteriorating with every new implementation.

Could not have said it better myself. Pes 5 and 6 was awesome this game is rubbish. The passing and the team AI is down right retarded.

You just don't know how to play the new PES games yet.

At 2 : 45 is a good example, a perfect cross pass, then I force Mandzucic to run forward while the whole team is supporting and goal.

^^ Good post and good video
YANNI_MOO May 2, 2013 @ 12:17pm
For every video you post, I can post 10, where:
1) The players won't go to the ball after a fumble;
2) After a tackle or a deflected shot/pass, the wrong player gets selected to run to the ball even if a different player is closer;
3) The defense splits down the sides for NO REASON after you get a goal kick,
4) CFs running behind the defender instead of towards open space,
5) RMFs and LMFs playing completely out of position on numerous occasions

I can go on.

Regarding your video and whether or not I "just don't know how to play", I can only disregard it until you post one where you actually play on Super Star difficulty and using a mid-tier team.
It's clear as day that you play on the default settings, which are for newcomers.

I'm sure you can easily pirate PES 3 from somewhere;
Play three PES 3/4/5/6 games and you will immediately understand what I am talking about. Hell.
On second thought, you don't even need to play a match, just see how much more in-depth the "Game Plan" options are in the classic PESs.

Try it out and let me know what you think.
KayJay May 2, 2013 @ 1:05pm
I don't need to pirate PES 3, I still have PES 3,4 and 6 original Discs and I still have PES 3 installed so that I could record the Highlights music from PES 3 and modded it into PES2013.
I played thousands of matches against human players who are harder than the hardest CPU difficulty. 1on1 and 2on2s, also i cleared Champions League with Bayern Munich & Werder Bremen. Cleared Konami pocal with Austria which are low class rated.
The old games have a big flaw which I hated all the time, it didn't have analog control. Just 8 run directions made it not very realistic to look at. Also the old games were much faster, way faster than real life. PES 2013 is slower than PES 2012, I needed time to get used to it but it also made it more realistic.
The PES 2013 pass system is also superior because you actually have full control over the direction and strength now thanks to the new manual pass arrows (similar to the Wii PES games) so I have to say again that you don't know how to play the new PES games yet if you have problems with passing and such, you are not used to it or you just don't want to get used to it.

You go on about the new manual arrows when from PES 3 onwards you can use the right analog for a manual pass, only an arrow is not displayed.

You go on about game speed when this applied to consoles only and the PC PES games had the same speed as this one, if not slower.

Also, I hate to break it to you, but the PES 2013 movement mechanic is still based on the 8-way directional movement when you have the ball. It's the same as the old versions. Free move without the ball and 8-way with it. Just press RT with and without the ball and you'll see what I mean.
Apart from the dedicated dribbling moves, the way players dribble and bodyturn is the same, only with flashier animations. You cannot constantly dribble in a direction that is not a 45 degree increment, so you can't talk about "realistic" 360 ball control.

I am sorry to bash what seems one of your favourite games, it was one of my favourite games some years ago, too.
However, I really doubt you have a handle on how much better the passing and teammate AI were in the classic installments, before the game got FIFA-fied.

And that arrow makes the big difference, the arrows are also the reason why the Wii PES games had such incredible control over the whole team.

I have them all for PC, your memories trick you. They are way faster paced than any of the "Next Gen" PES games. Also I don't think that they were slower paced than the consoleversions, maybe your computer just couldn't achieve 60 FPS in the game back then.

Uhm, yes you can. Your analogstick seems broken as I can clearly run in any direction as long as I want. It's an absolute difference to the old 8-way style. Especially when you run to the Cross, there were often times when you wanted to sprint in the same direction but you couldn't in the old games. In PES 12 & 13 you can.

I played ISS before Konami formed it to PES, if you think you chat with a newcomer, I can tell you that you are wrong.

I've always been a Konami footy fan. I owned from ISS all the way to PES 2009. I tried FIFA'10 but that was soon forgotten. I bought PES'13 on some strong reviews however I'm sorry I spent the money on PES '13 now. This is what the future held? To me, it's the disappointment of PES 2008/9 all over again.
I keep saying to myself "this time you'll pick it up" as I load the game, but lo and behold, I don't.
The art of defending is non existant. I can't seem to shepherd opposing players by holding them up.
After a corner there is no transition of my team into thier original positions until the ball goes dead.
Passing the ball can be very hit and miss, no matter which option I use for passing control.
The tactics editor is very basic for this day and age.
I envy those who have bought this game and enjoying it. I really wanted to make this game work.
If I had to put my thought's into ratings
PES6 on PS2 9/10
PES'13 on PC 3/10
