Installing windows demo's with proton.
If I try to download a demo for a windows only game, for example Shadow of War, I simply get a pop up saying that the demo is not available for the OS I am on. I can't find any other way to download the demo and then run it using proton so I was wondering if and how you can work around this.

There's an option in the settings to use Proton for everything. You can enable that and then download the demo. Once you've downloaded the demo and told it to use Proton, you can turn that setting off again.

Where exactly is this setting in the options? I can't seem to find it...

or just leave that setting enabled... there's really no harm since steam will still default to installing linux native versions of everything when available

Would be great if Steam would ask if you would like to install it with proton instead of telling that it is "not available for your platform" or point you to the settings page.

No harm? I changed the setting and started download and replacing all installed games for Linux with Windows versions for proton!!! Great now I can sort out things! :angrytitan:

I think they might've fixed it. I'm running Ubuntu and have enabled the setting but after restarting steam, it still runs my Linux native games without it forcing proton compatibility on them.

under the Steam Play tab Advanced section.

Also for anyone looking for it in the new steam layout its got its own section under the side menu of the Steam Settings labeled Compatibility.
