Steam for Linux

Portal mods
Hi.
I've installed some mods to test, but no one runs except from portal flash mappack (portal prelude, portal pro, rexaura, blue portals, etc...): Missing executable.
There are no .exe or .dll, so should'nt these mods be compatible?
Any way to fix it?

Probably because the Linux beta includes the Steampipe beta too, so the mods may need updating.

Steam is trying to call the Windows executable. You can symlink hl2.exe to hl2.sh and get past that error. Then the game is unable to locate resources from the Source SDK and errors out.

EDIT: Steampipe breaks mods on both Windows and Linux, at least with Portal.
EDIT: The post below will probably get things working using Steampipe.

I've just got Portal: Prelude working (I think). The problems and solutions are:

1. The Steam client calls hl2.exe instead of hl2.sh. Solve this by creating a symlink in the top-level Portal directory:
cd ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Portal ln -s hl2.sh hl2.exe

2. Valve is moving to vpk from gcf, among other changes, and changes to a mod's gameinfo.txt are necessary. I'll post my changes to portal prelude's gameinfo txt here if I can.

No idea how correct the entries are in there, but everything seems to work.

Worked on mine thanks!

Thanks! It starts and game begins. I'll try to test more gameplay later :)
Edit: I screwed up the first time due to unpacking some vcf files by hand, but it's working fine now.

1. Download portal-prelude 1.1.5 (zip works, although the file
portalprelude/sound/vo/speaker/level_03_test_10_entry-3.wav
is truncated; unpacking the exe by running it in wine also works)
Rename the
portal prelude
folder to
~/.cache/SteamLibrary/SteamApps/common/Portal/portalprelude
The Portal directory now contains portal and portalprelude, each with a gameinfo.txt

2. Run
xdg-open "steam://run/400//-steam -game portalprelude"
(got the syntax from http://www.portalprelude.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=6718#p6718 )

The first level starts fine thanks to the updated gameinfo.txt (except for the splash screens which are stretched diagonally, and "hint_move_ctrls" "hint_jump" appearing at the bottom of the screen in the first level).

Does the mod show up on your Steam game list if you install it this way?
No. The portalprelude forum post explains how to add a shortcut though (something like: right click on portal, create a second shortcut, edit the new desktop file). I didn't know there was another way to install?

Right. Undo everything you've just done. The Mac directions on moddb are outdated. Seach the General forum for 'Source mods' and you should find a useful thread.

Maybe I'm not finding the right results. Apparently I should put portalprelude under ~/.cache/SteamLibrary/SteamApps/SourceMods; the shortcut doesn't appear after I restart steam.

That said, it seems to work aside from shortcuts; I'll just play it now. You've been very helpful.

Okay. It had to be put into an existing sourcemods folder in the default library. The ~/.cache one wasn't the default in my case.

@tuxfire - the Portal Flash Map Pack doesn't seem to run for me. followed readme.txt instructions and put into steamapps/<user..>/portal/portal/ - tried for case-sensitive problems in renaming the portal/Portal-combinations to no avail - how were you able to find the maps in bonus maps? did you load by console? thanks for answering
