This happens all the time on linux with bleeding edge hardware, should be fixed in a couple weeks.
Edit:
For the latest and greatest hardware, usually git releases are needed, so check your distro if there is a COPR, PPA or AUR for that.
Edit 2:
Check this[forum.level1techs.com] Level 1 Tech discussion for set up, compatibility, etc.
It used to be the case for nvidia as well as the kernel module would not build, now with the division between an open kernel-side and closed userland it is MUCH easier for them (coming from someone using nvidia on Linux for the past 22+ years), it used to be the case where nvidia took too long for adding support for new kernels, so new distro releases were a pain.
Which linux distribution is installed on your system?
nvidia would prefer to close itself off 100% but then, despite cuda cores and their proprietary stuff, they would miss out on a huge market and thus sales... you only have to follow the stock market to see when nvidia's upswing really began and when they slowly opened up.
if this changes again at some point, you don't have to expect nvidia to stay open but to close itself off to the linux community again. i can't understand supporting such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ brand and still being proud of it. yes wow are the most powerful in the area but only because of previous criminal methods and subsequently because of the blind fan boy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that you should follow closed source well. meanwhile they say ♥♥♥♥ amd but ofc take all open source stuff from amd...
thanks to nvidia, the damn market is unfortunately limited to amd and nvidia, with intel now following suit... but it's also a store with criminal methods... you won't read any more names because nvidia and intel are ruthlessly destroying or buying up everything else anyway... luckily they didn't manage it with amd.
Perhaps the steam deck has opened new doors, and greed and the desire to beat nvidia will lead them and us to greater popularity of linux in home computers for gaming.
If the chair on which nvidia sits catches fire, and linux be the largest not only in usable computers (your fridge, this forum, your phone, sony game consoles), but also those on the desk for games. They will want to open up to linux as much as possible.
Long live the burning chairs and the power of persuasion of our wallets :)
ah well, i'd rather note that because it could be seen as nvidia bashing, so amd has anything but a white vest and are definitely not saints or anything else but in the end just a profit-oriented company. however, the methods of ms+intel+nvidia as a trio against ati/amd were on a completely different level.
