OpenAL Soft not working in Wine. Nobara.
Has anyone managed to get OpenAL Soft to work when running games through Wine?

It keeps going with Generic Software. I have been trying to improve things with Unreal Tournament 3, which uses OpenAL. If I remove the OpenAL32 DLL from the game's folder, there is no sound. Regardless of whether I use the original OpenAL32 file or the OpenAL Soft file, Generic Hardware is selected. Setting a DLL override has no effect.

When running the game on a Mac with Wine 5 through 7 (I have not tried later versions), OpenAL Soft works the same as on windows, no need for a DLL override or anything.

I tried using older Wine forks and Proton versions down to 7, no change.

OpenAL Soft is not working for Linux programs either. I tried UT99 v469d. Nobara package manager shows OpenAL Soft as installed, maybe there is something wrong with the package.

You need the i686 package installed as well:

sudo dnf -y install openal-soft.i686

I may be off with the actual package name, but the idea is that for UT99 and many othe native titles (UT2K4, Rune, etc) you need the 32-bit lib as well

I have that, and the mingw packages for the windows target.

I think I spoke too soon about OpenAL Soft not working for Linux programs. It sounds like it is working in UT99, but the ini file did not indicate that it was being used as it does on windows.

FYI UT99 v469 on Linux is 64 bit.

No matter what I try I can't get OpenAL Soft to be used for games running through Wine or Wine forks.:steamsad:

I mean you toss DLLs back and forth but do you have OpenAL installed in wine?
I have one prefix it has OpenAL installed as listed in installed programs. do you have it installed as well?
