Install button greyed out on linux steam
Hi everyone, I'm busy trying linux after being a windows user and i see certain games have install buttons greyed out while others install perfectly fine. I did a search before posting and the closest i see is someone asking the same question but he was using mac. https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/2650881941763189361/
Any help is appreciated. I tried installing steam but it was installed already, i'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem. I'm running 64bit mint

Did you set Steamplay settings to "enable Steamplay for all other titles" ?

The games that the install button is greyed out aren't supporting linux. Try Proton.

Go to settings → SteamPlay → Enable SteamPlay for all other titles.

I enabled this and then chose proton, I didn't want an experimental version so i had to choose the latest stable version underneath experimental. So far everything is working

Some games might not be working, some due to anticheat not yet supported, others due to other reasons. You can always lookup the game at protondb.com, to see if it works for others and some tricks to get it working if need be.

You can also 'force' a specific Proton version per game if the globally selected one doesn't work. You can do this via the game's properties window. Its under the compatibility tab.

You can check protondb.com to see what others are running.

Welcome to Linux!

A minority of games have a native Linux build, the others run on Windows and you should not be able to run them, but:
Steam provides Proton, a software wrapper based on Wine that allows you to run Windows games.
Steam has explicitly whitelisted a (growing) number of games that run perfectly with Proton (and are installable as if native), but you can activate Proton for all games to make them all installable, as others have already explained.
Some games may not work, refer to protondb.com

see items [1] and [2] here:

it should help unterstand proton, enable it and make sure you're not missing the stuff it requires to work

you can also find loads of hints there in case you run into issues (but you're always always welcome to post here asking for more help if you feel lost)

ps: instructions are usually for Ubuntu, and Linux Mint is a derivate distro so everything that works for Ubuntu also works for Mint
