Steam Overlay Issue
Steam Overlay (Shift+TAB) while in game isn't accepting any inputs from my keyboard.
be this either the web browser or steam friend chat.
Paste with CTRL+V works and I can shift tab out of the overlay.
I'm using the most recent version of POP! OS.
this seems to be plaguing every game i have except (Sekiro (and only if i pause the game before opening the overlay)
this seems to be a VERY old problem with steam and Linux I can see posts that go as far back as 2013 with no potential fixes.

Any noob friendly help with fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

In my experience, at times keys get stuck. It sounds weird, but if you press both shfit keys in the overlay, the keys will get 'unstuck', and you'll be able to type. I have noticed this regardless of the keyboard I am using, happens in my main rig (mechanical HyperX Alloy FPS) and my laptop (generic laptop keyboard). It seems it does have to do with how long you press the "modifier" key before pressing tab (in my case the key combo is ctrl-shift-tab, and I have to guess which of the modifiers got stuck)

I play without overlay because eventually it hogs and crashes. sorry, don't know any solution. If I need to have additional info I use game in windowed mode (of size of the screen minus sidebar) and keep browser open.

That's a fair take. I have been leaving it off more often than not at this point just because the fact that it doesn't work. But if I can find a fix I'd use it again just because it's more convenient for talking to friends, or doing a quick search for game info. Etc.
I hope valve eventually fixes the issue but I'm not holding my breath since this seems to be an issue for Linux users since the overlay has existed. Perhaps the steam deck will get their fingers out of their mouth.

I had issues with the overlay a while ago (not the same issue as OP) and it can be a resource hog too so if steam overlay was used exclusively to get a browser on top of the game, I'd keep it off forever...

unfortunately I know least one game where navigating and downloading in-game content like community-customized items is impossible without the overlay enabled

it took me a while to add 2+2 and realize these things were linked, so I though it would be better to let you know... :winter2019happyyul:
