Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Installed steam through wine on mac. Store won't load.
I am a mac user, and I have been waiting for a game, "Little Nightmares" to come out for over six months. I was really excited to play it, but the game can only be played on a PC. So, I installed "Wine Bottler" to be able to play it. The problem is, when I open to use the windows version of steam on Wine Bottler, the store, community, my profile, etc. doesn't load. The only thing I can load is my library. I tried using the mac version to buy it, and then play it from my PC version library, but it won't show the play button. All I need is to figure out how to get the store working from the windows version, and then I'll be able to play it. Please help.

Thanks!

i reccomend using porting kit its like wine but its better and the steam page loads this time too
The fix for this issue does not require Codeweavers or PlayOnMac or Portingkit.

1. open the wrapper in Finder "~/Applications/Wineskin[name].app"
2. right-click the file and select "Show Package Contents"
3. open "Wineskin.app"
4. select "Advanced"
5. enter "-no-cef-sandbox" into the box labeled "EXE Flags:"
Steam now refuses to run under WinXP, and this problem persists still in 2020, so I'm stuck.

How are you stuck? This is the Steam for Linux forum. You could, you know, install Linux?
I'm using Wine to play a Windows-only game. That -no-cef-sandbox arg only works if Wine's Windows version is set to XP, as someone else mentioned. Either that or it doesn't work at all.

Short version: In addition to -no-cef-sandox you need to set windows version for Steam.exe to Windows XP.

Just to be clear, are you running Linux or macOS? You should probably ask for help with macOS on a mac forum or something.
macOS. I'm asking here cause Linux Wine tends to have the same problems and solutions. Had no idea Valve had made their own solution for Linux. I'll go elsewhere then.

Has anyone successfully solved this issue? I fell into the same trap. I can open Steam using Playonmac but it doesn't load any content. Like other posters I also discovered Steam will not run using WindowsXP. I am not a computer person, so it took me quite a while to even get to this roadblock. I would be eternally grateful if someone could walk me through this.
Run disabling the CEF snadbox, commented above.

Hey Daniel, did you possibly find a solution to run Steam games [Windows] on Mac?

Any Solution to this?
I'm having this issue as well. Tried installing Steam through PlayOnMac, and none of the tabs load anything. The Shop, Library, Community, nothing. I'm on Catalina for the OS on my Mac.

Same to me. Have you find the solution?
What wine tricks do I need?
