Are the graphics all messed up?

Hi I just downloaded the demo from fileplanet and the textures and models were horrendously low quality despite adjusting them in the options. So then I messed around with the config file and fixed the above but now theres all this flickering from the lighting and very weird distorted marks on half of the characters and models.

Is the steam version more stable?
