Quake 4 vs Doom 3
Since these games are so similar in design it's easy to compare. Which one do you prefer? Personally I think Quake 4 is the much better game, much more action and more interesting environments, it feels like they learned from their mistakes with the pacing of Doom 3 and implented the necessary changes in this one. Also I liked seeing all the old enemies and weapons from Quake 2 but with newer models.

talk about a hard choice.two of my all time fav's both great stories, weapons and battles but if i had a choice of only one it would be quake 4 only because of the variety of battles and length of game but again both are on my all time top ten list.

I've recently played through Quake, Quake 2, been playing Quake 3 Arena and Quake Live on and off, Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom and Master Levels for Doom 2 and now playing through Quake 4 (Doom 3 will be last), and I have found that I've been enjoying myself so much more than I have with many AAA games of recent years, modern shooters really annoy me how often they take control away from the player with constant cut scenes and quick time events. I love the simplicity of these games, to me they're the definitive shooters, they define the genre and still stand as the best examples of FPS games.

Quake 4 has worse gunplay compare to doom 3, also you cant sprint...and the default walk speed is super boring slow
enemies in quake 4 are retarded, i didnt enjoyed killing them, worst i ever seen in any shooter.
Quake 4 has better graphics but only on some weapons and humanoid models, enviroment is worse overall. Also Quake 4 is is not optimized and i had some crazy fps drop on some areas still...so it is complete fail by performance.no matter what pc you have
" it feels like they learned from their mistakes with the pacing of Doom 3 and implented the necessary changes in this one" no they dont 2 different developer also 2 different subgenre
there is nothing wrong with doom 3, it just not the game you expected to be

i stopped playing Q4 after like 2 hrs or a bit more the gameplay was very boring and retarded for me, i played lot of fps games but cant remember something similar to this, the fight in this game is just so bad i couldnt stand more to play.
also worst quake game ever made from series
so no Q4 is not more action packed, with slow speed and bad fights

Even though they are made by two different companies, John Carmack is still the technical director of both games. I never experienced any fps drops during gameplay, it ran perfectly for me so not sure what is wrong with your version.

tough call, but i'm gonna have to go with "Doom 3" on this one as the better game!!

while "Quake 4" is a good game, there's too many "♥♥♥♥ you" moments that will either kill you very quickly, or those few escort missions that will instantly fail if the person you're escorting/protecting gets killed.

Having now just finished Doom 3 (BFG edition), I'm wondering whether I was being a bit hasty choosing Quake 4. Doom has some pretty awesome environments and both games have that nostalgia factor seeing all the new models of the old enemies and guns. Doom 3 does have a notorioulsy slow and boring first hour or two which really puts me off but once it gets going it's great. I also found that Doom 3's difficulty is much harder than Quake 4, I seemed to die a lot more in Doom but I think that also has to do with the way enemies will just suddenly spawn all around you whereas the Strogg in Quake are a bit more like fighting marines. All in all I've had a lot of fun playing through the Doom and Quake series and it's made me really pumped for the next Doom game. I read John Carmack say a while ago that if they made another Quake they'd probably revisit the tone of the first game rather than more Strogg stuff which would be awesome. I'd be much more excited for that than a direct sequel to Quake 4.

actually dude, I find "Quake 4" much harder than "Doom 3". at least if you've been playing "Doom 3" for many years like i've done myself, you can predict where enemies will pop out from or teleport in and get numerous spawn-kills that way.

kind of embarassed to say this, but if you show me a screenshot of quake 4 and a screenshot of doom 3 at the same time, i would think its the same game...

Bumping this: the jump scares & the excessive darkness in Doom 3 pisses me off. I was a big fan of the originals. Doom 3 just didn't cut it imo; finished it once & never again. I know heaps of people like it...I just feel Quake 4 is more like what Doom 3 should have been.

Can i pick both? :3

Doom 3, but I admit I'm biased in that decision. Doom I and II are my all time favorite shooters and 3 was a good game, despite some problems. It got me into horror games and I really liked the expansion pack.

Quake however I had little connection with. I remember my dad playing when I was a kid and even back then I liked Doom more for some reason. Quake 3 was the hit game at LAN parties with friends though. I only played the German 'censored-to-bits" version of Quake 4 and I didn't like it. Now having the played the real one, its much better.

Quake 4 is good, don't get me wrong. But if I had to decide between the two, Doom 3 it is for me.

Quake 4 and Doom 3 both have nice campaigns for their time. and BOTH of their stroggs and cyber-demons look years ahead of their time, even compared to metro 2033, I LOL'd when I seen Metro's monsters. haha. I was like.... wtf, Doom and Quake's models look better than this. But I think Doom 3 edges out Q4 by just a tad bit, but Quake 4 has a bit more to do.

Quake 4 howerver has the better multiplayer IMO.

BUT. DOom 3 has the better mods.

Q4 Max 0.82 and GTR were so fun.

These are probably the only 2 games that have consistantly been on my PC since I first got into PC gaming.
