Quake 4

Quake 4

Activate the game through CD-Key
I tried to activate this game inserting the CD-Key and this answered me «not valid» I bought this game nine or ten years ago. Is that why is «not valid»? Do I have to buy this game through Steam?

ya you do. the steam version has no cd key.
Well, I tried it by clicking in «add a game» and nextly in «activate a product on stream» and inserting the product key in the respective field...

Yeah, I bought the retail versions of Doom 3 with RoE and Quake 4 the very day I got my PC back in 2006. I couldn't activate the key either, I did manage to find Q4 on sale one day and bought the game that day.

I hate that ♥♥♥♥. I have so many games I would love to add to my Steam collection if the keys worked but nope. Like Quake1 and 2.. have to buy them again I guess. I wanna see if it goes below 50% off.. At least UT3 worked for me and I think some other.. can't remember..

Agree! This really pisses me off!

Yep, just greed. I like this game but refuse to require the DVD being in when playing it.

I don't think it is Greed. Bethesda would have to ask Activision (or the other original publishers) for a list of retail activation keys which is probably a pain to find.

Its not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ greed.

You sound like someone complaining about how they can't play their Xbox games on PS4 beacuse you swapped an Xbox for a PS4.

Except he's complaining that he can't play his PC games on PC. See the difference? lol

No, he's complaining he can't use his non-steam copy of quake 4 on Steam.

Which again is the exact same release as this one. The only thing different about the steam q4 release and retail release is that steam release got replaced introvideos once pub changed from Acti to Beth. So your point still has no ground because in otherways this is the exact same game as retail q4.

There are some actual games in steam that allow you to activate them if you have original retail cd-key. Such games as Arkham Asylum and Arkham City to name two.

Some, Quake 4 isn't one of them

It does have cd key; check "q4base\quake4key" directory of the game. CD key of the retail version cannot be activated on Steam though.

That Sucks!!! Especially since I have Crysis, Quake 4, the Original Dawn of War Series, and Supreme Commander!!
Btw, If you want to streamline your games to a common launch point (if you have Nvidia) you can always launch them from the GeForce Experience Application.
