Buy Steam or GOG

Greetings champs,

Is there any benefit to buying on steam or GOG in particular? I know sometimes GOG has updated network code/some game benefit to buying there. One of the main reasons I would buy on steam is for direct access to the proprietary Steam Proton software for Linux gaming compatibility which I've been leaning into lately. Any advice/input would be appreciated.

I don't think there is any differences with either version, however this is stated on GOG (at least for my account) "When you buy this game, The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall will be added to your GOG.com account for free!". I already have these freebies, I gotta make up my mind still.

I would recommend GOG, if for nothing else but to be free of DRM

While it works on GoG you will still have graphical like low res textures and weird models.

Thanks Nyx! I ended up just going with steam and downloaded the fixed config file to correct the low-res models/textures.

Uh, no you wont
The problem of recognizing new hardware by editing a config works on both versions

GOG version doesn't have online multiplayer - only LAN. Not that the online is very alive, but still kind of a big thing to be missing in a Quake game. Would recommend the Steam version for this reason.

If you care about multi then go for it. I had the same issue with UT2004; cant play multi online with the gog version
