Quake IV Special Edition in Steam
Hi! I have a Quiake 4 Special Edition in DVD and when I try to activate the game in STEAM said me that the key isn't correct... What do I have to do?

It may have to do with the age of the disk you have (i.e. it is an original release), or simply the age of the game itself which is 10 years old. If it it is an old original disk, Steam may not recognise the CD Key when you try to activate it. I have the original disk but bought it on Steam and all is well, I have not tried to activate the old key though. There are a number of older games on original disks that will not be accepted by Steam, again because of the dated CD Key.

Thanks Redbak.

Yes, the DVD is original and I bought it in... 2004? It contains the Quake 4 and Quake 2 with his expansions pack: The Reckoning and Ground Zero. But don't working in W10 :( neither in compatibility mode.

Any suggestions?

I have Win 8.1 as my OS so not totally familiar with Win 10, however I feel the CD Key recognition problem with older disks would apply to all systems.

You will also probably need to tweak some settings (as with most games) on Win 10 and information on that topic can be found in the game discussions (forums) and of course on Google.

The games are not terribly expensive but if you can wait until the 'Holiday Sale', there is a good chance you will be able to pick them up as a bundle and quite cheaply as well.

I have all original disks for these games but never attempted to attach them to my Steam account as I was aware of problems you could encounter. So I bought them all on sale on Steam and they work fine.

Well worth the purchase as they are still great games considering their age.

Pay again for something I already paid ... I think it is not the most logical solution ... not the fairest. I will try to contact with id-Software ... or with Bethesda

Yes I agree, but if the older games were never meant to be associated with Steam or anyone else for that matter I think that is where the compatibility thing comes into play. So the decision is completely yours, bear in mind though that later updates will not neccessarily work on the older software as well and there have been some for Quake 4 I know. Good luck.
