wish i could just "like" your post, i fugured it would be something like that but a quick google left me hangin, and i dont like going in the config files and winging it.

Hum it should work, but there's other alternatives, for example Instead of using quake4config.cfg, just make a new text file and name it autoexec and then change the file extension from .txt to .cfg (if you don't see the file extension, then look on google how to turn that on ), you can open .cfg files with windows notepad, when that is done, just copy the following into the file.
seta r_customHeight "1440"
seta r_customWidth "2560"
seta r_mode "-1"
If you don't want to mess with files, you can also create a shortcut for the game executable, right click on it and on its properties, in the destination section, after the game path put this:
+set r_mode -1 +set r_customHeight 1440 +set r_customWidth 2560
And then just start the game using that shortcut.
I never add need for it, so I never tried it, but I bet those cmdline cmds also work through steam game launch options.
