The first Modern Warfare. The newer ones may be driven crazy by spectacle creep as the series continues, but early on it was actually quite coherent.
As for the OP, To The Moon.
As for the OP, give me about a year and a half, I just might have something for you.
At the rate things are going for my current project (other than a few tiny details that are annoying the hell out of me at the moment.) it might not even take that long. I may be planning to use only stock content (set aside some character themes and a few area themes and the two battle themes) but I'm going to prove you can make a decent RPG with this thing. One that might even be worth selling, obviously not $80 game material, heck no, maybe around. $15
PS: By the way, there are several successful commercial games made with RPG Maker. Have a nice day. :)
To the Moon
Shadows of Odessia
The last prince (Suffers from design issues but still solid)
One way Heroics
Lot's more.

Yume Nikki: http://yumenikki.wikia.com/wiki/Yume_Nikki
Are all three fantastic games that were made in RPG Maker. Also Corpse Party and Ao Oni on the horror side.

Approved!!!
Especially for free games!
Witch's House: http://www.vgperson.com/games/witchhouse.htm
Yup, the last two posts already had these two games, but I'm posting them again, just to cite my approval. However, neither of these are commercial (as in, pay money for them), so technically they don't fit the criteria of the initial post.
Honestly, the outcome of this conversation doesn't really matter to me, because the real point of the software is to have fun with it. If you happen to make something big and successful, then good for you, but mostly it's just used for personal use. If you think all games made using this engine are "copy pasta trash", then you a) haven't looked very hard, or b) didn't make much effort to make your own game unique.
Hey, I'll be fair, there was a time when I thought all RPG type games were to similar and repetitive too. But then I played Ib (cited above by three different people) and it hooked me instantly. I got RPG Maker soon after, and have since then been determined to create something unique and fascinating. Heck, it wouldn't matter to me if most people didn't like my stuff so long as there is a little group who appreciated it for what it is. And honestly, I didn't get the program to make a huge commercial game. In fact, I never intended on releasing anything I made to the public. Why? Because I just wanted to express myself artistically, and that isn't something that I need mass public approval for.
How you chose to express yourself is your choice (within reason, that is), and if making a game like this won't help you, then don't bother. And in the event that you bought this software for the soul purpose of making a successful commercial game, then I am obliged to remind you that true success has never been achieved by complaining that other people don't live up to your expectations.
He's probably been looking at the Aldorlea titles.
