Translation patch issue
Hello everyone, i've translated an rpg from english to french by accessing the original project of the game. I translated every events, interfaces, and even a few graphic options.

However i have absolutely no clue how to export this as a patch, as the game is sold on steam, and i can't just encrypt the game via RPG Maker VX Ace as a full game, that'd be a freeware distribution and therefore illegal.

So i need to learn how to make a patch but i have no clue where to start, i've looked a bit everywhere but i can't find any step by step tutorial. Even if it's only for the text, i'd take it. I could always make a 2.0 patch with graphics later on.

There's https://rpgmakertrans.bitbucket.io/ this, but since i've already translated the entire game....

Thank you.

If you are the developer of the game I'm certain you could make a depot/branch of the game that downloads for french users, or even have it to be a branch you can opt-in to.

I'm not the developer though, i'm just a fan translator.

I wouldn't have a clue, have you spoken to the developer?

Yes, and he's okay with translations but he doesn't know anything about the technical subject.

We need someone who's released a game on steam, or who knows how such things work for this.

I tried to take the necessary files in Data, Graphics and everything, draged and dropped and replaced the old english files with the french files. And it worked flawlessly ! So i made a .rar containing all the translated files and uploaded them to a friend to see if it worked with him. It didn't. To try and get in his shoes, i redownloaded the game via steam and tried to install the "patch" like i said. No dice, it doesn't work. Although the original files were completely overwritten, everything appears in english and i have no clue where they even find the english files although they've been deleted.

I know a lot of fan translators use binary patches and everything but i don't have the slightest idea on how these all work. I'm open for any kind of suggestions though/

I am someone who's released a game on steam, however it depends on whether or not the project is encrypted.
If the developer can't create a branch / depot to release your french translation patch, I'm rather confused as to how they even got their game onto steam in the first place.
Which files in particular did you overwrite?

Everything in the data folder, tiles pictures, system pictures, pitcture files... Basicaly every data and a handful .png. But what i don't get is why it worked the first time but now it doesn't. Maybe the game updated to the latest version when i reinstalled it and it's incompatible with the data folder from my project that might be an obsolete version. Actually the project is encrypted the original version of the game, to avoid freeshare of the game or something, maybe.

@kurashi what do you mean ?

I know a few scripts for it, but I've never tested them. Hope they help.

Are you in contact with the maker of the game? If so I'm sure you can collab with them to patch it. If not, try to get in contact with them.
