Biogas
how much silage does it actually take to fill the biogas plant?

if I remember correctly, in each silo will fit 600.000 litres of chaf/grass. times 4 means 2.400.000 litres. happy harvesting

this makes me wonder if its not alot more profitable to store the corn as crop instead
brewboy Jan 9, 2013 @ 7:05am
if you using the standard map then just use the free grass around the edges of the fields for the silage to feed the biogas plant this makes it quite profitable

i made a calculation of 2400 tonnes of maize would net me if i sold it.... i honestly have to say i think ppl that make biogass from maize are stupid.. the grass arounds fields might make it profitable but since i run a modded game i can kiss goodbye to getting help from ppl online handling all my fields so( not that i met too many ppl online that actually helps...), makes it a non profitable venture for me

I turned one of the small fields next to the plant into a grass field, it grows fast and a full "harvest" of it is about 1 forage wagon full it adds up fast. My problem is with the slurry itself ... its useless :/ the most expensive slurry tanker holds like 19.5k if i recall, but dont let the numbers fool you it goes real fast you can barly fertilize a smallish-medium sized field (field 24) its a stretch todo that in 1 run.

I couldnt imagine doing field 40 it would take you 3-4+ trips back to the biogas plant

But the money from making the slurry is nice, i havnt converted corn to slurry so idk how profitable it would be. I just use grass.

I heard there are some mods that carry more slurry, but I don't know which ones are good. The two in the standard game aren't big enough for a large field like you said. I still use them, just cos' they're free, but if anyone has a good mod suggestion that would be great :) That is a fantastic idea about making a grass field next to the biogas plant, thanks for that one DP! Zavek, brewboy and Daedrick, all great ideas too! Thanks for those!

I don't think the game really encourage you to use ONE thing and only one, i think the "end game" idea is that you use everything at your disposal.

I agree with you there Kyrah, that's part of the fun of it, right? One thing I did was hook up the Horval Forage Wagon (V2) custom mod with a store price of 21,670 to the Buhrer 6135 A tractor included with the default map, and the front-mounted Kuhn PZ 280 F mower at a price of 8,840. This makes an affordable alternative mowing solution for the early game.

I did that at first but quickly found it takes forever to fill the thing up that way. Also grass growing "wild" is patchy , where as grass you plant on a field every inch is a peice of grass.

Mowing with the front mower you mentioned + the double mower that you can stick on the back giving you a nice coverage area. Then windrowing with the best windrower, default game i dont have mods, Then scooping up the lines of grass with a forage wagon works. It sounds like it would take longer but it dosnt. Though this method is hardly early game it reqs some moderatly expensive equipment though nowhere near the giant price tag of the forager thing.

grass you palnt can also be patchy
Tyrant Jan 11, 2013 @ 10:54pm
you can use the cheaper windrower aswell and stick it on the front of the tractor pulling the forage wagon aswell.

However i have done some more testing now i have usem the x1000 harvester with 2x trailers and a seperate tractor going back and forth with a another pair of tippers and this is something you can do as a ''waiting for the crops to grow'' thing, however random ppl joining you are bored to tears if they are told the chaff machine is unmanned since they only seem to want to harvest

Im going by ground cover of the mowed grass at the end of a planted grass field every inch of the ground has freshly mowed grass 100% i have never seen a empty spot, atleast for me. Vs "wild" grass which i would say is 60-80% freshly mowed grass

what i do is use a mower on the front forage wagon on the back pick up as you mow .
you do not need to fil the silage clamp you can fill it to about 15% then compress it to make the silage

I watched a video on the Biogas process and thought I would give it a try for extra cash. After working and getting the cheapest gear I could, I planted corn in the smaller field next to plant and harvested it with the cheap small chopper for trackers( whew..took some time). Did this twice and it yielded only 17% fill in a silo, but I wanted to see what I could get. Cover it let it sit. Again getting the cheaper front loader to dunp it. It got me about $120K cash at normal. That is far more then selling two fields of corn.

When you have enough money, buy and plant field 7 with corn, use the Krone forage harvester w/corn header. I also use an Agroliner 61,000 capacity tipper with a Siga uno and the kupplung mod so you can attach the trailer to the Krone (so it turns easier).

When you harvest the corn on field 7 you will almost fill up a silage bunker. (You will fill the bunker up the first time you harvest but subsequent harvests will yield slightly less.)
You will net somewhere around $728,000 (approx if you fill bunker to 560,000 ($13,000 on Normal x 56)). The nice thing of it is if you do this several harvest cycles, you accumulate enough slurry to actually fertilize field 7 many times. I use the Garant 2500 and edit the capacity to around 75,000 liters so fill ups are less frequent.

If you use the default garant, it takes about 4 fill ups to paint field 7.

I believe once you have the right field and equipment to use corn for the Biogas plant, you will see that it makes sense and will take less time than driving around with a mower/forage wagon configuration. If you don't have the money to buy the necessary equipment and you have the time, keep mowing and picking up grass until you can afford the bigger toys, they are well worth it.

Just my helpful hint.
