Kerbal Space Program

how do I escape earth's gravity?
I just bought the game, and now that I managed to learn how not to crash, my next objective is to break free from earth and expirence the ultimate freedom! I don't wanna learn how to orbit or land on the moon, I just wanna escape earth! It seems impossiable, the highest I ever reached is 622,000 meters but earth always pulls me back.

you need to learn to orbit to accomplish this. Sounds like you have a good enough rocket. Climb to about 40'000, make a 90 degree turn to the east and burn. That should get you into a stable orbit. Unless you obtain a stable orbit, then yes, kerbin will keep pulling you back...it is gravity.

Try making a rocket with multiple stages, a rocket with just one engine and fuel tank generally won't cut it.

He did say he didnt wanna learn to orbit. You gotta make a decent rocket, generally you cant properly play KSP without watching a tutorial first so I'd begin on youtube.

Sounds like you're just burning straight up and not actually making a circular orbit.

You need to build a multi-stage rocket (which i guess you've done) and burn to about 10,000m (stay under 200m/s). At 10km turn 45 degrees east and burn full throttle. Watch your map and check your apoapsis.
When it hits 70km+ you're in space. for your first orbit I'd say try to hit 100km and cut all throttle (press X) , warp to about 30 seconds before apoapsis and then burn full throttle facing prograde. Watch the map again and wait for the periapsis to reach above 70km.
After that you can cut throttle and you'll drift around Kerbin forever in orbit.

This is very basic and there are loads of videos and guides out there on how to orbit, but this should give you a basic outline. I strongly recommend looking up how to build a decent rocket and orbitam maneuvers, mechanics etc.

He also said he is getting up to 600,000m...kinda indicates he isn't using the solar system to his advantage.

Also, there is very little to see by escaping kerbins soi. You just end up orbiting the sun, and planets are too far away to view.

Youtube has many quality tutorials for KSP, here's a link to the search I just did:

KSP - Getting into orbit

I personally like Scott Manley's videos a lot but there are plenty of other good folks / videos to choose from that should prove useful.
I think OP doesn't realize that everything in space is orbiting something else. Not wanting to learn how to orbit is, well, pointless, since you'll always be under the gravitational influence of at least the nearest major body.

This makes me wonder if its possible to build (and time) a rocket for a direct burn to the mun. Though I imagine you'll need to orbit the mun before trying to land... unless we're just launching missles at the mun!

I recommend Scott Manley's orbit tutorial as well. He builds you a very simple rocket that's easy to control.

I finally did it! it turned out you don't need to orbit earth as some people suggested, but I ended up orbiting the sun -_-

It seems like you hit Kerbin escape velocity which is about 3100 m/s.

As you can see now, in space everything is orbiting around something else.
And so also your spaceship has to go in circles and elipses. :)

Lots of rockets
Guy in Sombrero Jul 14, 2013 @ 4:05pm
It's Kerbin not Earth.
HinFoo Jul 14, 2013 @ 4:08pm
maybe he just think you dont need an orbit in space, just fly around as you wish in space of nothing.
DaddyJokee Jul 14, 2013 @ 4:14pm
If you just want to escape, I would suggest watching Top Stage. Jeremy Kerman always says you need MORE POWAH!

EDIT: Say, that just gave me an idea for a Youtube show :D
