Nuclear Tug Design
hi all,
I've been having trouble with designing a nuclear tug. I have a space station with a fuel ship and a lander ready to go for a duna mission, but for the life of me i cannot design a decent tug to get it to duna, it seems that the nuclear engines, while efficient, cannot carry anything out of kerbin's sphere of influence. does anyone have any pictures or advice on a good tug design?

You're kidding right? Nuclear engines are no. 1 when it comes to getting to other planets. While I don't have any designs on hand, i suggest going back and redesigning your ship or looking on the official KSP forums for ideas :).

One nuclear engine tugs 80 tons of cargo on my ships. It's really slow and that's why you don't see the effect. Heck I usually fly them with 4x time acceleration because they are so slow.

I made a tug design that uses four of them and the speed is just right.

Here is mine. I use the tug on the front pulling the train because of the wobbing pushing it. So I found that pulling things is way easier. The tug has two nuclers on it.

thanks for the replies, ive just beefed up my lander with some NERVA engines and added a tug that basically acts as a fuel tank that pulls it's own weight, seems to work.
