.MU - WTF?
Ok who lame idea was it to use some unssuported, unknown, and missleading file format as this? Why couldn't they use something a little more commonly supported by most of the 3d modeling programs out there like 3ds or obj? If they are going to invent thier own proprietary 3d file format and slap an already used extension on it, the least they could do is put out a 3d modeler for it.

I hate blender with a passion and supprize, in the list of formats blender can export to (a small list at that) .MU is NOT one of them. For those who wonder, my issue with blender is that its interface is so complex as to make it useless to me, and the manual is just as usless. Several pages about textures and not a thing about how to actually apply the texture to the object. Then I ended up cluttering my screen with more windows. What a supprize, they make it easy to add new windows but no way get rid of them.

So is the a SIMPLE 3d modeling program out there that can actually do something with this imaginary 3d modeling format the KSP devs have cobbled together?

Supposedly KSP still support the collada format, but while I did get my part into the game, I couldn't figure out how to apply its texture ingame or define its collision mesh so once place I could not grab it again.

Docummentation for KSP part creations eams to be a bit lacking. How do these people manage to make any custom part at all?

.mu is the model format outputted by unity, which is the engine used by KSP.

Ok I picked up unity and the PartTools mod for it but now I have a problem where no matter what size I make a part, it comes out as a small 1.25 diameter part in KSP? Is there an issue with the PartTools scripts?

Make sure your scale settings in unity are correct.

What scale settings? I have not been able to find any.

Think I found a work around. I created a hidden 1x1x1 box which become the root core of the build. All other parts were then sized in relation to that as sub-components.
