New MK3 Plane part lacking bigger wings / engines
Yeah as topic says.

Is it just me or does the new huge plane parts, REALLY and i do mean REALLY lack some bigger wings not to mention bigger engines.

Im having to build planes with 100+ parts, mostly just the wings and then 16-20 engines to get it off the runway, to say nothing about actually going into space, let alone carrying anything in the MK3 cargo bay.

And those wings that are made out of so many parts are so flimsy and falling apart even with struts.

Not to mention those TINY LITTLE landing wheels :P

I know what your talking about. I tried to utilize the mk3 cargo bay and had the same problem.
I heard of a mod to scale up parts, but not sure what its called.

b9 is including procedural wings. There's a procedural wings mod as well. Tweakscale too.

Want stock only? I'd bet a hand there's another one to fuse parts together, like whats-its-name mod that has been around since versions inmemorial.

Don't want mods at all? Too bad.

Gotta love mods

Dont get me wrong, i love mods as well. I just think that the game is hard enough as is. You shouldn have to install mods to properly use default parts :P

The game is clearly not finished, and new parts are added as they are implemented - would you rather not have any MK3 parts until such a time that Squad gets around to overhauling engines and wings? If that is what you want, you can just stop playing KSP until the game is released and you'll get exactly what you want .

I'd rather have the mk3 parts in B9, where they belonged, as well as sp+ as a mod, like it was. Not super fond of Squad eating up mods just to make a worse job at them that the mod they were in on the first place. Meanwhile Kerbpaint has been neglected for the last bunch of months, just catching dust, when it'd be a pretty easy job to implement in the current Tweakables system already in place.

That said, I do think the general spaceplane parts overhaul was a pretty solid job overall.

Although I agree with everything above, there's something I want to state clealry:

POWER TO THE SPACEPANES

Mk 3/Large engines, and Mk 3 Tri and Quad-couplers.

You dont NEED mods to use any of the stock parts properly....but as OP says it can lead to really high part count for a basic shuttle/ssto.

So its not needed, however it helps alot.

I bet we get some new wings and jet engines with the aerodynamics patch...one can hope at least....until then its procedural wings to the rescue!

The good thing is, all the wings are now really strong "nailed" to eachother. It's not hard to build big stabil wings without struts. But that are my impressions. Maybe i have an other definition of "big wing". *g

A bigger gear bay will definetly come to the game. They wanted the mk3-parts out in the patch and concentrated on that.

These wings use no struts. I was able to safely glide down from orbit. The tiny landing gear suspension did compress quite a bit upon touchdown, but they were still sufficient.

KSP has just entered beta. This is where they will be adding more content, polishing, balancing, graphics, performance and stability. One of the major overhauls they plan on is the aerodynamics and deep-space refueling.

Could you tell something about the refuelling? I like it how it is now. ^^
SievertChaser Jan 8, 2015 @ 11:31pm
Another component we're missing - just to add to the refuelling debate - is an Mk 3 docking unit.

Plus, who flies crews of 19 Kerbals? Why is the passenger bay so enormous?

An idea: combined the docking bay with a smaller passenger cabin.

At a guess, we'll get more spaceplane related wings and utility parts when the new atmospherics system gets put in.
