How to match orbit?
Hello all.

I just got this game yesterday. It's a lot of fun. I figured out orbiting and stuff and am curious how I match the orbit of a target (another ship, etc). I am trying the Kerbal rescue and I just cant seem to get on the proper orbit that the little stranded Kerbal is on. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It is confusing at first. After you select your "target" you will see two intercept arrow appear if you are going to come close to your target at some point. Obviously try to get this as close as possible before you get there.... < 5k is always a good start. Also make sure your planes match. Adjust at Ascending/Decending nodes for best effc. When you get close to your target, your nav ball will change from orbit mode to target mode. When you get the closest to your taget you want to burn retro (green circle with x) until speed is at 0.0 that means you are traveling the same speed. Then you can approach the target using the pink circle reticle. Hope this helps.

Rendez-vous are explained in the "asteroid capture, part one" tutorial. Try it, and it should become clear (at least it did for me)

You made orbit on your first day???

Biggest tip is a wider obit will slow you down, a closer orbit will speed you up.

If you need to catch them go faster, if they need to catch you go slower.

Watch how much the distance changes each orbit, slow down the catch rate when orbits get close, if they are very close slow down a lot.

Use the kerbals pack to close the distance rather than take the ship to the kerbal.

I can usually do it in 2-3 orbits if I get it right. If you do the maths you can do it within 2.

Thanks guys! Haven't had a chance to try anything yet but plan to this afternoon.

Yes I somehow made orbit on my first try. I was expecting failure and all of a sudden I realized I was in a decent yet somewhat odd shaped orbit. ;)

Thanks again for the tips.
