Transferring Fuel between tanks separated by a heat shield
My typical rockets have a heat shield between the fuel tanks and the capsule to protect the capsule on re-entry. How do you transfer fuel from a docking orbital station (with fuel) if your docking port is on top of the capsule and your heat shield says it is non-cross feeding. I've tried a external fuel pipe from the capsule past the heat shield to the fuel tank, but it doesn't stick. I don't want to try docking if I can't get more fuel into my ship.

Tac fuel balancer. Failing that, you can use a plain pipe. If you are having trouble connecting them you can use any part that allows crossfeed such as pylons/hardpoints to elevate one of the ends of the pipe.

Can't really see your problem. If your fuel tank and capsule with docking port is seperated by a heat shield you can transfer fuel from an docked vessel without any problem.

I've tested it myself just a moment ago to be sure: One Mk1-2 Capsule with docking port on top seperated by a heat shield & decoupler from it's fuel tank was docked with a Mk2 Landing Pod with Heat Shield and Seperator and a full fuel tank. No Problem to transfer fuel from one to another.

Parts which have "no Fuel Crossfeed" don't intervene with fuel transfers during docking (just like Decouplers which have no crossfeed).

Thank you, Kesat, Maybe I overthink things I'm not familiar with. I didn't want to go to the effort of docking and not being able to transfer fuel.

You can transfer fuel between any two tanks on the same ship regardless of whether they are connected.
