Missing contracts?
Hi there,

I recently started a new career game and just completed the "Orbit Kerbin" contract. I guess the next step would be "Fly-By the Mun", but somehow I can't get that one or am I missing something?? Furthermore the speed record of 2500 m/s disappeared, but it's neither listed as completed nor failed nor active.

Any ideas?

You get better contracts as your reputation goes up. Get more reputation to recieve more difficult contracts. Also loosing reputation will remove good ones and get you back to the newbie contracts.

Ok I thought those contracts with that "national style" symbol (like the ones with launch new vessel, etc...) were sort of the default ones. Because I got contracts to explore the Mun but not the Fly-By. And I don't want to go there before doing the Fly-By. I don't want to go to the Mun without being able to fulfill that Fly-By contract. Or can I explore the Mun and be able to do the Fly-By contract later on?

I dont know how far into space have you traveled, maybe you got close enough to moon for the fly-by quest to trigger itself. Those quests are are hard to track as they are being added with no warning and removed apon complition the same way, so u might have completed it already but didnt notice it. Dont worry about it in case it'll pop up later as you will be visiting moon million of times. Starting with rescue missions from the orbit of moon, through settilite and orbit stations launching, up to a base building on the moon surface. Anyway you'll be travelling there lots and lots of times.

I don't mind it popping up at another time. It's just helpful to have as much contracts as possible at start. I had it in my first career when starting 1.0 so that's why I'm kind of missing it. And nope just did an ordinary Kerbin Orbit at 100km. Oh well looks like I'll have to go without it

My guess is it havent popped up because you are not yet capable of completing it. I would say unlock more parts via tech. tree and it will pop up. Or complete more minor quests such as "Reach X altittude" or "Achieve X landing distance". Its only a guess thou as i dont know what are the exact requirements for those quests to show up.

As far as I remember I was less advanced in research in my last save game where it popped up than in this one (which already has the "Explore the Mun" contract), but just to be sure I'll test it in a new save game. And as noted also my 2500 m/s record just disappeared (no complete, no active, no failure), but it was active at some point. Just want to know if it's a bug or perhaps something else happened.

I sent a satellite into space for the first time and got the Fly-By Mun mission plus another one to place satellite in a high orbit (1,000km). So try that and see what happens.

I am going through my completed quests and i dont see a "Achieve a speed of 2500m/s" but i did complete it for sure and got the rewards. Probably just a bug and this one is not being added to a list of completed quests. My guess is that you have completed it but it wasnt added to the list.

Yes I'm aware it's not there to grab, but it's not on the list nowhere. I don't care if I just miss the Fly-By Mun mission, but if I can't get that I'll probably won't get all the other ones that come after that from the "default" contractor (if it's a bug), which means losing a lot of potential bonuses

Im not saying its not there to grab, im saying that its not shown as completed, but i did complete it. So i guess you've completed it aswell and it wasnt added to the list of completed quest. As for the Fly-by quest, just keep on playing and it will probably poup.

Yeah but wouldn't that be a bug as well if every other auto contracts are listed as completed but one (in this case the 2500 m/s) doesn't? But thanks anyhow.... I just started a new game for comparison

Yes it is and you are more than welcome to report it on KSP official forums :)

I also had a problem with the 2500 m/s contract. I definitely went faster, but the contract was not completed. When I ended the flight it had disappeared, it is not present in any list of completed, failed or available contracts.

There are only a limited number of contracts that can be available at one time - if the one you're hoping for isn't there, try declining contracts you're not interested in (some of the tests are pretty ridiculous, and not worth doing). New contracts should pop up to replace them. If you're still not getting the ones you want, you need more reputation.

There are some pretty awesome mods for that, btw. Contract Configurator allows you to install contract packs - I currently have one contracting me to build stations, another to ferry tourists to these stations, another to set up scanSAT satellites, etc... pretty cool stuff :)

I just tested this. After a certain point these contracts don't appear any more, you need to free a slot at the right time, otherwise they will never appear. The developers should make a list of the conditions of these contracts that stop appearing. I feel sad that I'm never going to be able to complete them in my career:(
