Do I always need a pilot to engage SAS in career mode?
I unlocked the ASAS module and thought that it might provide the ability to engage SAS without a pilot. It still wont let me and I'm curious if having a pilot in the crew is the only way to engage SAS.

No their are satellites down the science path that allow for SAS control. Actually the very first sat you get has SAS like a pilot and a torque wheel inside to allow for steering but its best to put a secondary torque wheel on as the one the satellite has isn't strong enough.

By sattalite you mean probe body? I put the Stayputnik Mk1 on my craft and press T and it still doesn't engage SAS.

technically if you have just a pilot in a normal pod if you press T it should always work for you
