ALT- L doesn't work
I've just bought KSP, and i am trying to launch my first rocket, but it simply won't launch. So i did some google searching and found out that if the little light in the left corner is purple and not green, you can't launch.
The fix seems to be pressing ALT-L but no matter how many times i press, it doesn't work.

Please help me!

No doubt, but they're also the hardest.
No, making shuttle-style spaceplanes is the hardest. By far. I have not made 1 successful run with one--not even with other people's ships!

Haven't found an instance of stage-locking in all the time I've spent playing this game, but it seems to be a recurring problem. Guess we'll have to loiter around the KSP forums for a bit, see if there's any news on the subject.

You, my friend, need to Klockheed[forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com] up your life.

...and immediately join the grief of the rest of Klockheed fans in its discontinuation.

There are a few reasons why this could occur, the stage lock has been mentioned already but other (legitimate) causes are a lack of electric charge for a probe controlled vehicle and timewarping while trying to stage.

If you encounter this problem please open the debug menu (Alt+F12 on Windows) and click the "Show input lock stack" button. Make a screenshot of that and post it here.

I, too, experienced perma-lock. Engines could be manually activated one at a time, but no key combination nor mouse position resolved the purple light of doom.

I was able to fix it by opening the flight tutorial, then leaving after it unlocked the stage. I figured that since the problem seemed to happen right after leaving a tutorial that locked it, maybe opening one that unlocks it would fix it, and it did.

Sounds like you are in time warp and and to exit all the way from warp before you can move.

I've been having similar problems as the rest. I used this and I had a "Tutorial Lock" on my game. I had ran the tutorials up to the Orbiting Tutorial (Which I completed) and then started my own game. I was able to fix the problem by quitting and restarting the program and everything was fine from there.

I noticed during the de-orbiting part of the orbit tutorial that I was not able to deploy the parachute, so it may be that the orbit tutorial or the one before is holding the lock at some point.

Thanks a lot! That helps!

YOU NEED TO GROUP YOUR STAGING!!!

On the left side of flight screen OR right side of VAB/SPH you will see a stack of little ICONS...each one represents a part on your craft that can be activated via staging control (spacebar by default).
You can drag & drop those icons between those little numbered boxes. The stages are used from lowest on up....

If the 1st stage meant to fire on your craft is 3 solid boosters you need to make sure the ICON for all 3 is in the BOTTOM most staging square....

Once on the pad use left SHIFT and CTRL to throttle up and down respectivly. If you moved the icon like described above the first time you hit space bar the 3 boosters will fire.

You need it explained past that send friend and ill broadcast.

Are you using an old version of Mechjeb?
If so your controls are frozen because Mechjeb hasn't released them.
Upgrade Mechjeb to V1.0

Wow, double necro thread. Steam has no necro rules?

:steamfacepalm::steamfacepalm:So I think you already solved it, but for other people I am going to say:
1. Open up the "Cheat" Menu with MOD+F12 (Mod is Alt for Win and RShift for linux)
2. Click "Console" and then "Input Locks" You will see something like "Bitmask 1010010100010101010101010101001" or "FlightTutorial"
3. Click "Clear Input Locks" to clear everything
4. Launch

He does not have problems with staging, he can't stage at all
