Can't Extend Communotron 88-88
It's been awhile since I played KSP, so it's entirely possible something changed since the last time, but it used to be you could just right click the communotron and hit the extend button and off it would go. Unfortunately, not when I right click the communotron it just says "Status: Locked" with no option to change that.

Is there something I have to do to use it?

make sure you aren't using time acceleration when you click on it. time accel causes everything to be "locked out". without a screenshot, that would be my first check.

When data is transmitted by the communotron when it is done it will retract and you wont be able to exted it again like you describe. However you can still extend if they havnt transmitted any data. I think its probably a bug.

Nope, no time accel. And it lets me use everything else. Like I can extend the solar panels, I can conduct experiments. I tried other communications devices with similar problems. None of them will extend, even when I conduct an experiment and hit the 'transmit' button.

so it doesn't send the data, or just doesn't extend? if it still sends the data without extending, it's likely a graphics glitch. in other words, it extends but you can't see it.

Got any electricity?

It doesn't send the data, or extend. When I try to send, it actually tells me the vessel has no communication devices at all.

And yes, I have more than enough electricity to operate the communications. It's like the game just...doesn't even think they're there.

Did you have a stock fairing covering it during launch? I had one issue with a solar panel where it would not deploy but the other I had would. They were placed with symetry but one was considered still in the fairing.
No, I double checked twice Woody. Even doing a test with a very basic rocket. Nothing but the fuel tanks and, the engines, and the command pod. Still the same problem. It registers as 'locked' and there's no button to open it.

Late reply, but it might help. Service bays seem to get in the way of other components. I had a communotron attached to a fuel tank, and tried to send a report home for a mission:

As you can see, it failed. When I was testing this science wagon, some thud engines didn't light up, and I saw the "cannot activate whilst stowed". So I opened the hatches:

Success! Seems like anything within proximity of service bay's don't function unless they're open. If you're not using bays, then I'm cluless :csgohelmet:
