Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program

mun tutorial part 1 sucks
always when im actuallly in the mun orbit (i have perfect orbit for landing done through retrograde) i dont have fuel in my main engine to slow down and the smaller engines are just not enough power... i love this game but i cant really complete this tutorial... always my speed is too high to land

The tutorials do indeed suck, they are missing quite a lot of important information and use some of the worst KSP rockets ever designed.
However, a Mun landing on the tutorial is more than possible. Are you undocking the landing stage from the transport stage using (ight click to bring up their options) the docking clamps between them?

If you try to land without serparating the landing stage then your most likely going to either run out of fuel and crash, or if you do succeed in landing, tip over and crash :p

All the tutorials in .90 are out of date and are being rewritten for 1.0, so yeah they do currently suck but wont for much longer :)

Could you tell me please when should i undock the landing stage? When i will be +/- 10km while landing? I really cant do this :( Maybe i waste soo much fuel for retrograde.. And which one is the transport stage? the one with kerbin pod?

are you trying a single burn decent like the apollo missions? If so that is why your running out of fuel...its really not needed to land on the Mun anyway..

Ideal Decent to the Mun will actually be 3 burns. A deorbit burn from your parking orbit, then you dont need to burn again till ya get low.....8-10 Km up....and low thrust...try not to use more than 1/3 thrust during this stage of decent. You want this burn to end with your craft totaly zeroed out (or as close as can be in such a situation) in velocity in all directions...and about 600meters Alt.You will start to drop strait down....at around 150meters are so start your 3rd burn...slowing yourself to a safe touchdown speed over the last bit of decent.

In this training I can easily go into a Mun circular orbit, but I'm not able to land at all, I always run out of fuel. How should I do?

I see someone is talking about undocking the landing stage here, but I can't see any options on the current tutorial for that, has it been changed or it's just me who can't find that option?

There are two tutorials, if I remember correctly.

Yes, I'm referring to part 1

You aren't meant to land in Part 1

I know, but the Kerman guy says it's possible so I wanted to end the training by performing a landing, however it does not seem to be so easy as he says. Maybe in the older version there was a different setup for this scenario.

No... He means to go to the next tutorial

This should work:
Be in a low Mun obit.
Move two Kerbals to the lander can.
Right-click on the docking port. Click undock.
If necessary switch to the lander with [ or ].
Stage the engines on.
Land.
????
Profit. (Or crash into the Mun, this is KSP after all.)

I didn't find those options for undocking, anyway I was able to do it using RCS to deorbit, though it was a very long maneuver since you can't warp and use RCS at the same time.
