Repacking chute
I am planning on using chutes to assist my landing on Duna (will also use engines to assist too). But I am using the MK2 lander can that has seats for 2. I want to have my pilot and scientist in the lander can.

I have an engineer that has the skill the repack chutes but I want to leave him in the mother ship up in orbit. My question is can I wait to repack the chute when I get back up in orbit? Or will that create drag as I am taking back off?

I could bring the engineer down with me. but I would prefer the scientist if I could.

Parachutes automatically cut upon landing, so seeing as you will only be travelling to Duna's surface one time, no.

So my question still stands. Do I have to rep/ack it after the landing. Or can I wait to repack it back in space without it inhibiting my launch?

the first post kinda answered the question, after the chutes have done their jobs they will be cut, also removing the chute-effect.

No. Yes.

Any time you can do an EVA, so the only time you can't do it is when you're flying in an atmosphere. You just send a level 1+ engineer out, right click on the parachute and press the 'Repack chute' button.

Yea I got that, its fairly obvious. Would be rather hard to do in a freefall. I just wanted to wait till I was back up in orbit where my engineer is. instead of having to bring him down to the surface with me. And was concerned the collapsed chutes would be dragging behind me as I took back off.
