To Install mods, download and unzip them into that folder.
Or get ckan, which is a mod manager.

For whatever reason, the folder you need to unzip mods into is hidden from Finder in macs. however, there is a way to access them so that you can install the mod. Open your steam library and right click the game that the mod is for. Hit "Properties." Then go to "Local Files" and click "Browse Local Files." A Finder window will open up showing you the local files for that game. At this point, you need to go up to your task bar at the top of the screen and click "View." Then click "Show Path Bar." This will show a bar at the bottom of your finder window that reveals all the subsequent folders from your hard drive to the local files of the game. You might need to expand the window horizontally to reveal the names of the folders. Open the folder named "steamapps." The folder you need to unzip the mod into is called "sourcemods" and it's located in the steamapps folder.
If there's a readme in the mod's zip file, get rid of it. You just need the file containing all the mod content/files in sourcemods. Then, close and relaunch steam. The mod should be listed in your Steam Library.
oh yeah, i already know this, i the guy before you helped me figure it out so... thanks anyway
