This mod allows for the mining of ore, converting that into metal and then rocket parts, and launching craft from other planets or in orbit.

MKS/OKS...one of my personal favorites! Allows for building large self-sufficent colonys on other planets and in orbit....mainly geared toward TAC life support, but can be useful without it.
My favorite install of KSP is the one with the full suite of USI mods and Extraplanetary launchpads.
There is a mod currently being maintained that uses code based of Razcek's original code (Raz being the fella that made Kerbtown originaly...or the code for it at least).

Its basicaly the same thing....place statics using PQS system.
