CKAN is the #1 place to download mods. Three clicks, boom, you have a new mod.
The only reason I do it myself is that I only found out about CKAN, ~100 mods deep and it didn't seem worth it, but would use if I had to do it again.
what would ya'll recommend as good downloads these days? I grabbed the usual stuff I always liked. Planetary base pieces, tac life support, chatterer, mech jeb, kerbal engineer and EVE visual enhancements (not sure this one is working though) but any suggestions?
thanks ill take a look!
MK2 pack
MK3 pack, both give loads of additional options for your ships.
Habtech 2 gives you a load of options for habitation modules for space stations, or colonies
Restock and Restockplus give you a bit more polish to existing parts
Obviously the more you add, the more problems you might encounter, I tend to add a few at a time, and test, not sure if CKAN does any checks, as I haven't used it. I am running around 100 mods, and it is stable, but it took a lot of messing about to get it stable.
My mods are pretty much cheating though, and ruin the base experience, I tend to gravitate towards getting absurdly large things into space though. Record is 500 chaps on one launch.
lol thats great.
I havent played since before the release of the two DLC's so there is some new stuff for me there. Actually ive been having some difficulty with re-entry this time around. I used to just come in at a shallow angle and eventually the aerodynamics would slow me down. but things seem to have changed a bit and I find im at orbital velocity still well into the 30K - 40K meter range which then causes the rocket to often flip over and dive in nose first. I'm thinking this might be a center of gravity issue and i'll try to get more of the descent stage parts weight to be at the bottom but if any of you have been playing for years and know, did re-entry actually get tweaked? or am I just imagining it?
One essential mod that you NEED to get is KSP Community fixes. it drastically improves the games performance and fixes many bugs.
if your looking for some graphics mods you should get:
EVE Redux - Adds basic clouds and city lights. (Needed for Volumetric clouds)
TUFX - Adds the Unity Post Process Package for use within the game allowing you to customise lighting to look much better.
Scatterer - Adds atmospheric scattering kinda hard to explain you kinda just have to see pictures of it.
Firefly - Revamped Atmospheric Effects. Completely overhauls the stock reentry heating, it looks amazing and somehow runs better than stock heating effects.
Blackracks's Volumetric Clouds - Adds the best looking clouds seen in gaming imo (Paid but you can get it for free if you know where to look)
Parallax continued - Adds trees, rocks, grass & and many other things that could appear on the surface of a planet. Also improves planet textures.
Deferred Rendering - Improves lighting performance and makes lighting look better but can cause issues with some mods
Restock - It overhauls all of the stock parts in game to look way better and makes them all have a consistent art style.
Waterfall - Overhauls the exhaust for rocket engines and aircraft engines to look wayy better
Distant Object Enhancement - Does what it says on the tin, lets you see far away objects like planets and other craft. It really enhances immersion i highly recommend this.
FreeIVA - Not really a graphics mod but it allows you to go into first person and explore the interior of your craft.
If you do get FreeIVA, I recommend RasterPropMonitor (Adopted) to go with it. it allows you to install other better looking IVAs for your parts. The IVA Pack i recommend is DE_IVAExtension (Adopted).
If you are looking for some utility mods i can recommend:
MechJeb 2 - Adds autopilot for ksp, probably one of my most used mods. I love its docking feature.
Astrogator - Shows upcoming transfer windows and lets you warp to them, can also plot maneuvers for those transfers.
yeah I really should get that.
I looked for volumetric clouds on CKAN but didnt see it.
ahhhh okay. that explains it.
