new player
i had this game in my wishlist for a while now, and i think its time to buy it, but i have a question. I know it might sound really stupid but can i play and enjoy this game without knowing anything about spaceships and how they work?

Do you enjoy trading in games? before you knew how to trade ?
Did you enjoy flying helicopters in GTAV or battlefields or other?
Maybe you can learn to build rocket in ksp and fly them without hassle like the others, or you'll have trouble and find it difficult like the others.
It's all relative really.
I'd say there 2 levels: player you enjoy it without pushing it extra difficulty and other playing real maths and engineering and planning with experience / extra difficulty with more advance deployments.

But is there the ones that went a bit too far up their heads and bought it just to be nerd ? I talkin °@# but i think no one buy KSP to not enjoy it. pleople even love/hate the kraken (a major bug spoiler)

It's a great sandbox, with a bit more (career/science mode), and it's a really good simulator even with cartoon characters xD

If you don't know much about rockets then this game is going to be a bit of a learning curve for you. I would recommend watching some YouTube videos first so you have an idea of what to expect.

you don't need to know anything about rockets, i didn't and i now know a lot about the game. Its very fun, and if you even need help to figure something out, then just watch a youtube tutorial xd

The real question you should be asking yourself is, do you want to give up your ability to get immersed in 9/10 movies with space flight

Don't worry. You don't have to know anything to make a rocket that will launch and then crash into the ground. Reaching orbit is like trying to crash into the ground and missing.

Reaching nearby planets is where it gets challenging, but the game will help you learn as your progress via the missions it offers.

To really get the most out of it, you should be ready to learn about rockets and orbits and aerospace - which will mean a lot of outside the game 'study'. But you don't have to tackle it all up front .. load up some pre-built ships and fly until you crash, could be enough for now, then if you want to dig in and learn more later.
There are planes, too.

This game is how you learn about rockets and spaceships. If that's something you want to learn, then you'll like it.
The most important questions is "do you know how explosions work? If you don't, you gon learn!!!

this is the real question.
this game has utterly wrecked my ability to suspend disbelief in most scifi space shows / movies.

although, the ones that try to actually follow the rules are now 1000x more precious and appreciated.

i started with building planes and making crazy ones then later had multible peopple on the mun and minus with satelites around it and did this without checking feul etc just doing it the kerbal way ad more boosters

Lol very true. Especially when people get to orbit without anything even remotely resembling the delta V required being used.

Short answer is yes.

Semi-long answer:
The game is both very hard yet not hard at all at the same time — as long as you’re not playing campaign (unless you set to max funds) or any mode with maximum difficulty options, it is a very hard and complicated game to get right, but you get virtually infinite attempts to do what you want to do.
Part of the experimenting and trials is the fun stuff, you will blow up rockets all the time. And if you know very little about how they work and orbital physics and stuff initially, it may take you dozens and dozens of hours to get your first rocket into orbit. Maybe even 100+ hours to get your first successful moon landing, or dock two space ships together.
… and it will be worth it the whole time. Trust me, it is a very complicated game, but you will think every second of blowing up 50 rockets before you get your first one into stable orbit will be worth it to get that satisfaction.

I know comparing games to Dark Souls-like games or whatever is very overused and cliche, but I think this applies. This game is extremely hard, and will take many, many attempts to do your next goal successfully. But you get infinite attempts in most modes to do it, and once you accomplish that goal, it’s like beating a hard boss in a fighting game. It is 100% worth the satisfaction.

I may be a little biased being a science and history nerd, and when I first played it was many years ago now, but when I first played I did only know about rockets and orbital physics and stuff only in the basic way, that rockets had staging and stuff, otherwise I knew about the different space programs and everything but I didn’t know “how” they worked. So everything I described above applied, it took me dozens of hours to get into stable orbit.
I regret nothing.

TL;DR — Extremely hard game, will take many attempts to reach the next milestone, but it is worth it 100% for the satisfaction of when you do.

I never looked anything up. It took me hundreds of hours to make my first orbit.

But the feeling of accomplishment from figuring things out myself was better than any other game I have played.

There are some basic things I needed to figure out, like clicking on the dots next to the navball to set SAS mode and how to use the DV tab in the lower right of the builder so you can build parts to the environment they are going to be in. But once you get the basics of the interface down you really don't need anything else other than determination and experimentation.
