Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program

How to get lots of tech?
Ok so i've played on career and i get by on some tech by using the mobile space lab or whatever along with some of that mysterious goo, but it just isnt making the cut anymore. I ge tlike 1 tech each trip now and i was wondering how i can get more points so i can unlock more of them goodies :)

The further out in the system you go the better your return for science. Sounds like its time to visit other places.

Put a science lab around a body, and you'll be able to do various tests per flight/descent.
Put a bunch of command pods there and you'll be able to store a bunch of results.
Send a multi-pod ship to pick up the test results and return them to Kerbin.

not quite sure where you are in your tech tree so staring from the start of a new game,

you can get enough RP from exploring the locations around KSP to get several early tech's all before even leaving the ground. (launch pad, Runway, KSP itself, the surounding land, and the sea, are all distinct biomes that give RP)

you can also get rp from 'the air around kerban', low orbit, and high orbit. after collecting these it should be easy to get too and likely on a second trip to land on Mun and Minmus, both of which you can get RP from high/low orbit's and from the biomes present on the surface

after even just one landing on each of Kerban's natural satilites (and orbital Data collection) you should have enough RP to build ships that can get to (but perhaps not land on) other planets at this point i'd recomend setting your sights on Eve the plant itself has high gravity and an atmosphere making an Intercept much easer then some other planets. it also has one small 'moon' to get RP from on the same trip. (or you can go where-ever ^.^ and don't forget to take science on the sun!)

also keep in mind you are not limited to just one of any Science part. so you can for example put 6 of each part on one rocket letting you get full data on 6 different biomes in one trip (assuming a safe return, as landing that much back on Kerbin safely is a little but not too much harder) hope that helps :)

You really cant do any thing twice for full tech points, under that you need to find a new place you havent been. Listed is rule of thumb- the hight you send crew report, from any orbit body(kerban, mun, etc) can be taken for low orbit med and high orbit, where you land and take sample(biome, ck wiki for locations), crew report from orbit, above said locations.

Started a new game and the first time landing on the mun I had over 400 tech points from just orbit, crew reports, 2 goo on the ship used at diff hight and one sci lab used when I landed, gave a eva report when I landed and in orbit above ea biome as I orbited the mun, then a sample when I landed for the total of what I can remeber doing. Thats is one trip I had planed, do the same on ea biome and all though you will not get sci for orbit biome crew reports you will still get sci for biome samples and using goo and sci modual at that location.

I still have way more to get and thats a single maned ship to and from the mun. You can repeat this for ea location on the mun, again ck wiki for the total spots, I do remember ea crater is a location but there are more to find. This can and should be done first on kerban as there are mountan, desert, planes, artic, oceans, grass lands?, and I forget but ck wiki for maps.

Give you one example if I made this too much, just over oceans you can get a crew report, eva report if at a good hight(kerbal dosent fall off), land, take sample and give landed eva report (says its wet) get back in and recover or recover both kerbal and ship. This is repeatable at all locations(biomes) on every planet or moon(or will be), and at set orbit hights crew reports and eva for just the planet or moon.

Remember this is still alpha game and tech tree is one of the newest adds, its still getting tweeked and needs it still.

And if you need help youtube it, scott manley has a great tutorial for new players for how to get started and go much further, and for a good lol try danny2462. Two I like to keep up on and remember it is rocket science, thats hard so have fun doing it.

Return it all to Kerbin? It's much more efficient to mine the Mun for science, since it has a bunch of distinct biomes and is easy to get to. What I did was made myself a science lab, docked a lander w/ science instruments to it, then flew it into a munar orbit. After that you can use the lab as an orbital base where you can refuel your lander and clean its instruments after every flight. Store the data in a module that holds kerbals (like the hab module), transmit only when it gives you 100% science (EVAs and Crew Reports), and send a transport to bring the raw data back to Kerbin when you're done.

I got 3500+ science out of that.

I did pretty much the same thing, but I use the Radial Experiment Storage Container[kerbalspaceport.com] mod to be able to send the experiments back in minimal unmanned drones.
Here's the full station:

(I don't know why the screenshot turns out so dark, it was fine in game :KSad:)
Nearly upright in the picture are the lab and fuel container, on the right - attached to the fuel part - is the lander (red), on the left (green) the return drone carrier (eight of them).

Sadly, until I got this setup running properly, I made so many trips to the Mun and back with the lander itself that the Mun is nearly sucked dry already science-wise :KOh:
But I'll use it again when I start another career mode, it at least feels pretty efficient. I also have two experiments of each kind on the lander so I can transmit one and bring the other back, so I get instant science for the transmit and am at 100% for the experiment after return.
