Kerbal Space Program

repairing items in space?
I just broke one of my solar panel and i wwondered why we can't repair it by right clicking on it?

Is there a way to repair instead of replacing it wityh another one stocked in my cargo?

The only way you can repair it is through KAS,[kerbalspaceport.com] AFAIK.

With KAS you can mount boxes of spares in your spaceships, pick them up with a Kerbal, place them in EVA, and also detach them, too. You also have winches, EVA strutting and whatnot.

In stock KSP you can only repair certain objects. Solar panels are, sadly, not included in this list.

ok ty, i got KAS but i can't put the concerned solar panel to replace it...we can only put some but not all kind of solar panel in boxes :(

You can enable most stock parts on KAS through a .cfg file on its folder, 'addpart' is called, I think. Just add a new line with the part's name, you can find them on /gamedata/squad/parts. I managed to add docking ports and decouplers, for example.

Be careful when adding huge parts though, the weight of them can make EVA very hard to control when picked up.

last i checked you could perform an EVA and repair things. wouldnt know about solar panels though, i honestly have only done an eva repair once...and that was a long long time ago.

Romfarer Lazor System has a disassemble / reassemble system in-world. with enough practice you could use that take any craft with the parts to be "repaired / replaced" up to whatever craft your working on, and just do it that way rather than with KAS storage boxes.

warning though, aligning using lazor system last i tried it was not that easy.

Goodluck on your repairs.

I got a tip to repair broken item while using KAS mod:

just grab the broken part and put it inside some storage box, than pick it again and there you are: it's repaired ;)

I think in stock the only thing you can repair is a rover wheel. You can manually deploy solar panels if you haven't got the power to do so. But you cannot repair them. Though you can break them with an EVA kerbal.

i hope they will improve EVA part management to the game in order to allow us to be free of making structure in space...this coul be very impressive... KAS is very impressive for the moment...adding wonderful features i wasn'tt expecting...

in fact KAS adds 10x fun to this game !

They've teased a tool box part from time to time, but the broader repair functionality hasn't yet been implemented. Best you can do for now, as folks have suggested, is replace the parts with KAS spares.

You can repair stuff in space using engineers, what do you mean?
:KOh:
Parts coming back from the dead? Sounds like necromancy...
