Need help with SCANSat
Hi all,

I have tried to use the SCANSat mod that allows you to map planets and moons but I cannot display the map. There is no icon on the screen to display it, and the part that has "open map" as an option shows nothing either. Has anyone got this to work?

turn the parts on to start scanning. Use the action keys, or right click them. I use the mod, and it works fine. There should be a icon on the screen ingame when flying a craft with the equipment. That icon opens into a scan readout window. This mod also works with rasterpropmonitor, so it can display in the cockpit on a monitor, aswell.

I just tried it again and it is still not working for me. I launched a satellite with the ScanMap part or whatever it's called which is supposed to show a map, and another part that looked like a big white box with red writing on which I think is supposed to map terrain elevations. I am using Remote Tech and made sure it had antenna and was in contact with mission control the whole time it's in its polar orbit. I gave it tonnes of batteries and loads of panels to charge them. I right clicked the scanner part and picked "Start Scan" and it is now offering the option "Stop Scan" so it is on. I then right clicked the ScanMap part and selected Open Map but nothing happened. There is also no icon for the mod to click.
I had a similar problem with the Kethane mod. The salution is to reinstall KSP and it should work fine.

right click ksp and goto properties, from there click verify game cache. this should solve your problem without having to lose any saves. i have not had this problem with scansat but i did have it once after uninstalling a mod with kethane.

If the mod still isnt working for you, I would redownload the mod, and reinstall it.(delete the old one) You may have gotten a corrupt download. And the result of that is, it just wont work. It wont necessarily make the game crash. And you wont get any error messages. Which is what seems to be your problem here.

If it still doesnt work after reinstalling a fresh download, then it might be a conflict with another mod. (You will have to read the mod page on the official forums for that info. Im not aware of any conflicts off hand, but there could be some.)

There are 2 parts that you'll normally use for scanning a planet or moon. These are the multispectral sensor that looks like a white box with red writing on it and the radar altimitry sensor that looks like a box with a lined silver cover. It unfolds into a curved antenna when active.
The multispectral scanner maps biomes while the altimitry sensor does altitude maps.

There's also the Maptraq and BTDT antennas that are intended to be used after a map has been made.

Once you have one or more scanners mounted on your ship and are in orbit you right click on the device to activate it.

If the mod is working you should have a small icon on your screen with a picture of a satellite. Make sure it's not obscured by some other mods window.
Clicking on the icon should open a wndow showing you the small map with buttons for the big map, settings and instruments.

As far as I know the open map option only shows up on the Maptraq antenna and it doesn't actually open any windows. It just allows the antenna to acess any maps that already exist. You still need to open the window with the icon on the main screen.

It's possible your install is defective, but perhaps you just haven't found the icon yet.

The icon you're looking for is on the left side of this image below the toolbar and above the staging controls.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your replies. I have got it working now by doing a complete reinstall then installing each mod I use and testing KSP each time to make sure there are no conflicts. I installed SCANsat first and checked it was OK, which it was, then installed all the rest one by one. It looks like verything is now OK, including SCANsat.

Now I have to redo my Career Mode from scratch (I deleted the save) but that's OK as I will enjoy doing it again as I've learned a lot since I started playing and can apply my learnings to do it better this time around.

The only thing I would love to add first is a revised tech tree that makes use of satellites and probes more in the early stages of the space program. I will have a search around for such a tech tree that will hopefully work with all the mods I installed.
i have a question and a problem and would like to have them answer::
Problem: I download the SCANSat-For-all bit when i install it and go to the parts bays there is no parts anywhere in the SPH or VAB and i look in the folder and all i have is SCANSat-for-all.cofg.

Question: Is there parts for this thing or is this all there is for it?
If there is parts for it where can i get them and why didnt they come with the dl?
