Kerbal Space Program

One Of The Best Games I've Ever Played:
I've always loved sims of all types. Pacific Fighters, Silent Hunter 4 the list goes on. But this game has got me bad! I have been playing non-stop since I got it. Started career & have been struggling ever since. Love every minute of it!

If you have interest in space exploration, like open end games (sanbox mode) and like to build things & use your brain, then this game is for you. Try the Demo & watch the videos from
DaSquirrelsNuts to see what the game is about & if it's your cup of tea.

I only have about eight hours in, but I'm going to have alot more in the way it looks. This game is totally addicting. Plus like all great PC games, it has mods. I've only used two. These are:

It's very rare that a video game gives me a hard time, but as I've learned, I'm no rocket scientist! I was going to wait for this game to go on sale but I couldn't. Worth every buck! Since the Dev's are still working on this game, I plan to see alot of improvments coming. If you watch the videos above you will see improvments already.

As Casey Kasem always said, keep reaching for then stars.

Welcome to the club. :)

You are right, there are many great mods for this game. In fact there are atleast a dozen I consider must haves. I wont list them all, but here are a couple that im sure you will enjoy.

Graphical:

"Visual enhancements, clouds and city lights".

"Universe replacer" for better skybox and HD textures. (download HD textures separately)

(Between these two mods, you can really up the beauty of this game.)

Gameplay:

"RasterPropMonitor", for working monitors

"Procedural fairings" for all your fairing needs.

"SCANsat" for radar mapping abilities. To find easter eggs and anomolies. :)

"Deadly re-entry" For realistic reentry. Now you really do need a heatshield for that capsule.

"asmi's ECLSS Mod- Life Support Mod" Vanilla gameplay there is no life support needs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those are just few of the many awesome mods for this game. I recommend you check out the official mod forum, for more info on what all there is.

No problem. Dont be afraid to ask questions, or for advice or recommendations. Its a pretty helpful bunch around here.

edit: The forum I linked is the best place to get mods, Spaceport doesnt always have everything. And it doesnt always have the latest version. The forum is very active.

I just got KSP too and cannot agree more with the OP. This truly is one of the best games I have ever played, on any platform. I used to play the free space simulator "Orbiter" which I really enjoyed but for me KSP has totally fired Orbiter. Sorry Orbiter, you had your chance but there's a new kid on the block now! I initially was put off buying KSP because I thought it was not a "serious" space sim. How wrong could I be! For all prospective buyers, don't let the cutesy little green guys and "klanger" like worlds put you off - the game is awesome!!

:D

PS: I should also mention that Youtube has many good tutorial videos. A great way to learn the basics. Scott Manly is one of the more well known video makers. If there is any game mechanic you want an explanation of, you can find it there.

There is also an official Wiki.

Watched a seven part episoide from DaSquirrelsNuts on YouTube. That's what got me hooked on the game. Gonna listen to Space Oddity, maybe that will help.

Scott Manly makes some great ones. This game is about orbits, and manipulating them. You are always in orbit around something. And going to another place you have to do a Hohmann transfer orbit. I recommend learning about maneuver nodes. The main navigational tool in the game.

This game is all about asking questions. and people feel the need to answer them unlike most games, but i suggest watching the begineer tutorals videos on youtube. they will work the best.

And twitch.tv streams help as well

Also i wouldnt download the texture mods. because if you run too many mods and your computer cant handle it, you may crash from time to time. and it sucks in kerbal lol. i would download texture reduction mods if anything

But if he doesnt get the graphics mods, his game wont look like this. I suggest trying them out and see how they run. You can easily remove them. Its as easy as deleting a folder. Mods couldnt be easier to install in this game.

Visual enhancements is an easy mod to install, just place the folder in Gamedata. done

Universe replacer is more complicated. Place it in gamedata as well.
But you must go to the mod page in the official forums to get the links to the textures you wish to replace. Then choose which ones you like (download them and look, or check the pics if they have them) There are only about a dozen links in all
Then place them inside the universe replacer folder in gamedata, in the appropriate sub folder. I use this to just change the skybox, for the better stars. There are several to choose from. In different HD sizes. (its all very straightforward)..

You can also change the textures to planets and moons. However, any of the planets with atmosphere (and clouds) has already been changed by the visual enhancements mod, so dont change those, or they will conflict. (jool, kerbin, eve, laythe)... Just change the planets or moons that have no clouds. If you feel so inclined.

Personally I just stick to the skybox change. But thats the beauty of mods, it allows you to set it how you like.
